TG volunteer SL program

Just thinking out loud here... I'm reading the "public vs private" threads and I think there's merit on both sides. Hell, I'd love to play exclusively with TG'ers on a private server for higher level teamwork but that's not good for growth. Quite the contrary, IMHO. And besides, I actually enjoy helping new players see the light. I like showing them that teamwork does exist and that it can bring the gameplay experience to new levels of fun.

So I'm thinking, hmm, how about if we have a couple of regular TG peeps SL on the public (non-passworded) server as "trainers". Name the squad "TGBootCamp" or "TGTraining" or somesuch and we show em what TG and teamwork is all about. We plug TG, tell em about our passworded server, etc..

But then I'm thinking, who the hell is gonna volunteer for this when most TG'ers are playing on the private and/or passworded server(s)? Well, me for one, because like I said, I kinda enjoy it once in a while. But as an incentive, I was thinking maybe people could volunteer Time for some sort of "credit" that can be used to "purchase" SM privelages. For example, 16 hours of volunteer SL'ing in a training capacity would = a single month SM.

Of course the hard part is somehow monitoring the system and making sure the volunteers are actually doing what they're supposed to...

Again, just thinking out loud here, trying to come up with some sort of compromise between playing exclusively with TG peeps and spending time with the pubbies with the interests of growing TG as a whole.

I don't like the idea of essentially paying people to play a game by allowing them to become SM's.

im all for the SL idea....we should get a in house squad set up that does just that....we start the squads and are the SL's and we just lead by example once this new game dies down a bit we will get more regulars and better recruits....

Re: TG volunteer SL program

We had more volunteers than we could use for PCS training sessions on the CS server. It's in the interest of members to help, as it causes growth in the community, which in turn increases the stability of the community. Sure TG isn't about to disappear into the void of bankruptcy or anything <PM's Apo to check >, but growth and stability are two things that will help keep the community alive.

Re: TG volunteer SL program

I play SL a fair amount, and am happy to contribute to the community by being a SL trainer. Maybe not every time, but I would do it for free as well. It might also be an idea for the SLs to have an experienced TG-guy with them to help back him up etc.

Root has put together some good PCS training sessions and we might be able to get some tips from him. BF2 will allow for quite a few more trainers to help out. Due to the game style of BF2 allowing for multiple squads, respawning, etc. training can also happen during normal games.

We'll just need to make sure the SL relays what he's doing to the CO... not that the CO should not use that squad, but rather that squad might just be a little bit slower in movements. That's really up to the SL and the level of play of the squad members.

We may also want to dedicate certain nights where these volunteers will help out.

I like the idea and I do take up the SL position quite often.

Re: TG volunteer SL program

One thing that I can do with the cs servers is slow down the speed at which players can move. If you can do that with BF2, you might find it easier. With PCS training, the trainers effectively take on the commander role. They sit in spec mode, and we use teamspeak to communicate with our teams using seperate channels.

Re: TG volunteer SL program

Another idea that might be nice is to setup some TG SL training. What I mean is that we take the veteran TG players that are comfortable in the SL role and train up other TG'ers who are not so comfortable in that role. Maybe setup some scenerios on the provate server to walk through.

I know I would eat this kind of thing up - learning SL in the heat of battle can be intimidating

Training on the private server against say a skilled squad on karkand maybe? It would require probably at least 10 trainees and 2 trainers, but you'd have 10 new squadleaders after the training session on at least one map.

Re: TG volunteer SL program

Im up to learn some more about being a SL. I dont like being a SL at all now, I feel horrible commanding people around. I can do it at work but not in this game. I need some lessons before I go showing people how to be good SL's.

Re: TG volunteer SL program

This type of discussion might be something to open up in the BF2 general forums. There are some very good leaders who are not supporting members and would make great trainers.

I'm already a SM but I'd do this for free, I like being an SL for some reason.

Agreed. I wanted to put it here first to get a general feeling from the "higher ups" first.

Can we just move the thread now?

I don't have moderator access in this forum group so we'll have to call on some others to move this thread to the BF2 general forum.
