Choose your kits?
What does everyone think about choosing your own kit load out, rather than have it dictated to you? The obvious answer to this is that it could adversely affect game play balance but I wonder if it would.
There are two obvious classes that are severely handicapped with regards to firepower, the AT and Engineer class. Now would it massively hurt the game if each had access to an M16? If they had a better weapon, would we suddenly see a mass of engineers and AT guys running around? Other than weapons, what about secondary weapon choice? Should a class be able to substitute secondary items? For example, I take a spec ops kit but I want Claymores instead of charges, or maybe I want a couple of smoke grenades. Would allowing these changes impact the game badly, or with everyone equal, would we just see a different game play style emerge? The reality mod is looking to replace the Engineer and AT class with better weaponry, I’m wondering if they could add in secondary kit changes. What does everyone think? |

Re: Choose your kits?
I like the fact that you can't get everything you want with one kit. Each role has a positive and negative to using it. I remember when BF Vietnam first came out, everyone chose the same class (don't remember which) because both weapons were very powerful.
In terms of the AT role, I wouldn't change that class. The machine gun they carry is sufficient and close to medium range. The engineer on the other hand could use a different weapon. BF2 doesn't offer any close combat areas to make the shotgun very effective.

Re: Choose your kits?
I believe that would be the BF:V Rambo kit. It had the best machine gun (forgot the name) which was the most accurate and highest firing rate and then as the secondary weapon you had a AT weapon.
No you give people the chance to pick their kits and you will end up with everyone picking the Rambo Kit. Now maybe you allow players to choose their own specialty items (frag grenade, smoke, claymore, mine) but not their main weapons. |

Re: Choose your kits?
Yes, the "Rambo" kit. The M60 LMG and 4 or 5 LAW's (the Vietnam equivalent of the SRAW/Eryx).

I agree, maybe the SMG wouldn't be a good choice for BF2, since there aren't any of those sorts of issues, but can I at least have the assault's sidearm? |

Re: Choose your kits?
I choose my AT kit because I just cannot handle the fact that if I am medic or support that I cannot damage a tank (grenades don't count). I just have this thing that I have to be able to knock out a tank/apc. And I'm just good with AT rocket and DAO-12
![]() And yes, Engineers are really underpowered, the mines dont work on instant and can be avoided and they have no medium or long range weapons what so ever. |

Did it have a button for you to press to 'hold' your breath. I know another game was like this, which I forget, and they gave that feature. Was a nice setup.

Re: Choose your kits?
i play almost exclusivly as an engineer when i can, unless my squad dictates the need for anouther class I love taking out guys with my shotty, yes its not at all effective anywhere but extreem close range, but when you have been playing as one as long as I have you learn to handle your pistol very well for the longer ranges. I love the balance in bf2 and I feel they have prettymuch hit the sweet spot (with afew changes here and there) you cannot rival the engineers value when defending a flag and if you where able to use at mines with say a spec ops kit it would really hurt the balance.
The lack of engineers is very apparent but its not because they are broken, more because they have a larger learning curve and require more dedication to use them at their fullest, as for the reality mod, im not happy on the news of removing the shottys, Engineer is asmuch of a class as any other and sometimes feel they are abit underestimated |

Re: Choose your kits?
I love using the shotty. I'll especially go engineer when on urban maps..but I find an engie a nice kit on Dalian Plant too. I guess the buildings and construction make it easier for me to get around and stay in close quarters.
