Graphics card and lag...

Ok regarding my last post " Building a gaming pc" i had a long hard thought.. why not just upgrade my computer? cheaper and simpler...i gues, as its a hp, not easy to upgrade but is done. as i only suffer from a 64mb onboard graphics card LOL!!!!!!!! i think this may be my most biggest lag problem.. as when i start up a game, the whole sceen is white for about 1 minute and if i move around, it takes a whgile for it to load building.. e.t.ci was thinking of spending about £120 on a graphics card.. what are the reccomendations? Also i will eventually be upgrading to 1mb ram, 300gb hdd, new os ( xp proffesional ), Im not to sure about what type my motheboard is.. but i know its a micro-star or something or other, i have 512mb ram.. 40gb hdd, intel pentium ( not the best i know ) , upgrading to th products i specified, would make a big diffrence in lag and play? thanks.

How much is £120 in US dollars? Around $200? I'd go for a 6600GT

Yessir! Nvidia GeForce 6600 GT: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130220

I know that a link to Newegg doesn't help you much, but I thought that it might give you an idea of what you're looking at both in terms of price and product...

Re: Graphics card and lag...

You should start by checking your motherboard specs at www.msi.com to see what your upgrade capabilities are.

If you don't know what motherboard you have you can download one of several different free programs at majorgeeks.com which will give you the specs for your pc. Check out the System Info tab and pick one that sounds good. I've liked AIDA32.

Before you buy a video card, or anything else for that matter, you need to know what your system will accept. Learn all you can first about the components you have now before you spend any money, that's my advise.

Nah... You just need to know if you have an AGP slot and whether it supports AGP 8x or not.
