Tank Gunner Studder

Is anyone else experiencing studder when gunning for a tank driver. Everytime I get in the turret I can't hit the broad side of a barn because of the studder. I'm running a horny system so I don't think it's GFX or a ram issue. Just wanted to know if anyone else is having this issue.

Specs
P4 3.0 Mhz HT
2Gigs dual channel
ATI 800xl 256megs

Yeah it happens to me too, but only if there is a driver. It's not a new phenomina though I've seen that happen since day one.

Maybe you should get your system laid. My system got horny too once so I put the toaster next to it, lit a candle and left them alone for the night with a bit of marvin gaye in the background. The next day my PC worked fine and the studder had gone.

Thanks Ragged that makes me feel better, at least it's not just me. Maybe someone here has identified the cause or found a fix for this.

Re: Tank Gunner Studder

as long as the tank driver is turning his turret, you are going to get stutter in the gunner seat. Apparently the game has problems seperating the two turrets, like I believe they are supposed to be. The main turret turns and starts to turn you and the game says NO! This turret stays stationary, and they bicker back and forth like 2 little boys cramped in the same room for 6 hours.

Re: Tank Gunner Studder

the Original BF didn't allow the gunner to move seperately so this is an improvement and I think it affects everyone.

It's the same thing for any rotasting gun platforms, from my experience anyway. Including the blackhawk, chopper gunners, etc.. It's not so pronounced as a blackhawk gunner, since it has to be banking or maneuvering wildly (well...as wildly as a big heavy fat bird can...) for it to hinder your aim.

I can't hit anything while the turret is moving. In fact, I recommend that my squad members stay out of the turret unless they need it for transport. Tanks and APCs can be rolling deathtraps and adding another kill risk isn't necessary. I get better results outside of the turret.

Exactly the same for me, it's just too hard to try and line up on anything smaller than an APC, which makes you a sitting duck for everyone.

Re: Tank Gunner Studder

Yeah. I can only kill in the gunner turret if the main cannon is staying still..which isn't often..but I can remember a few times I'd take out an AT guy on our tail...but I can remember more times when he just kept on running

Hopefully the fix is in the 140+ fixes this next patch is bringing us.

Re: Tank Gunner Studder

I have trouble hitting stuff from the turret in the horny toaster. Usually, when I man it up, I take too much enemy fire and then I'm toast.

If you're squad leader, it's best, IMHO, NOT to be in a tank. First person that spawns on you may not hop out so no one else will be able to spawn on you. I know I've spawned on a squad leader in a tank before and stayed in the gunner's seat for a few seconds before realizing that I needed to hop out to free up the spawn point.

I agree that the turret machine gun is about worthless. Even if you see a spec ops sneaking up to place C4, you can't do too much about it because of the shaking around. You could always dismount, but that defeats the purpose of being in a tank in the first place.

When I'm on foot and come across an enemy tank, and am not playing AT, the first thing I do is look to see if there is a gunner. If I see one, I try to get an angle to shoot at him. Guaranteed ticket loss for the enemy team when I kill him.

Correct. I don't even like riding in APCs these days. These lumbering machines are just deathtraps for a SL and possibly the worst place to be. I prefer riding in a buggy or at worst a transport, this way squaddies can still spawn, but I am fast enough and have enough field of view to avoid a swift death.
