A lot of new members...it seems
Is it just me or does it seem we getting more and more new BF2 players. For some reason I was under them impression that new member sign-up was cooling off after the initial release. I think Mateo made post about 300 new members in a month or somthing a while back.
Just curious about the stats on new member/SM sign up, are we on the rise? Maybe we'll be seeing the private server used to it's potential more often. |

Re: A lot of new members...it seems
There are a ton of new members on the web site. But there has been no where near 300 new supporting members. There are quite a log of new ones though, certainly enough to fill a 48 player private server!

Re: A lot of new members...it seems
Actually, if I recall the post, I counted the number of new members at 300, and the number of new supporting members at the time were 30. We've gone way beyond that, but I'm no longer curious enough to count them up.

I think a lot of people really like the mayhem of 64 player games though and maybe that's what keeps it empty.

Re: A lot of new members...it seems
I recently became a new member...love the site and love the info you guys post. I mainly joined because I'm veeeeerrrry new at this whole thing server thing and your members seem to have an emphasis on welcoming new members and teamwork. I'm just turning 30 and I've never posted a message on a forum, EVER. But I felt compelled to when I ran into this site. Forgive my noobnes in the statements and questions that follow.
When I bought the game a week ago I was under the impression that I could just log on find some buddies, play some cool FSP rounds and call it a night. However, I slowly began to realize the difficulties of navigating through the "servers" to find a good game AND how difficult it is to jump in to a game w/ my friends (who by the way are just as noob about the game server aspect as I am). When we do find a server that we can jump into we've run into problems like getting randomly bumped so that we cant be on the same team. Is there a way we to avoid this? The other verrry noob question is how do I play with other members of TG, is the TG server found in the main Battlefield 2 multiplayer lobby or do I have to punch in an IP address? Again, forgive my noobness. I'm hoping to play w/ some veterans and learn a some stuff. I'm even thinking about becoming a supporting member if thats what it takes to be able to play and practice w/ friends who are serious about teamwork and having fun. |

Re: A lot of new members...it seems
Hiya NorCalRoach,
I think you've hit the nail on the head about what we look for and what other places look for. I do find that a lot of online gaming is very much about 'keep up or be left behind', with little mercy given. I think it's different here. We want each other to do well. We want to hear about new guys that come in and CO for the first time ever and are so good you get people praise them on the forums. You want to hear about how Tarpan's squad defended an area against an enire side for most of the game, or conversely about how someone shot him and then stole his jeep *whistles*. To answer your questions you can either write down the IP addresses of the servers we use (look under server information on the left nav bar, or in the announcements), or go to the browser, stop the search, and then type 'tactical' or 'tacticalgamer.com' into the server name search bar. This should cut the filter down to something very manageable. Something I found on the demo was that there were so many servers on the search list, that scrolling the nav bar down on the map caused you to miss chunks of servers listed in between. In fact we have 3 servers, but the private server is only for supporting members. Playing with your mates is pretty much a matter of luck in terms of which side you end up on. However you can switch sides fairly often. My advice would be to start a squad on the MEC/Chinese side, as you tend to get autoswitched less often (I think if nothing else than because the USMC is the default team to join). One of your guys make a new squad, and then the rest join. You must be on a squad, and you must do it within 60 seconds. However I think to start off with you guys might be better off splitting up, and learning about how we work teamplay wise. Then when you have an idea of the style of gaming we tend to go for, and have had a chance to work with some of the excellent guys here, you can do more funky things, like start your own squad to play together, or even have a crack at being CO! Hope this helps. Most information is contained within the SOP's. See the linky bit in my sig ![]()

Re: A lot of new members...it seems
I really don't know what to say at this point. It seems like everyone has covered all the bases.
The only thing I will add, other than welcoming you, is that Tactical Gamer is a fluid community. We're not here to just support BF2, we're here to support the members of the community. As time goes on, new games will be coming out that people will want to play and old games will slowly fade away. We adapt to the times and try and keep the games around that the community supports. BF2 has flourished due to the hard work of the admins, the generous help from our supporting members, and the great fellowship we have between our members. Welcome to Tactical Gamer.

Re: A lot of new members...it seems
Thanks for the sound advise, I'll pass it along to my buddies. Can't wait to get off work and game on...one other follow up question- supporting members, any additional benefits (other than to pitch in for a good server and a community of great gamers)? What's the private games all about?
