Appropriate language question
rules clarification please:
I was playing on the TG 64 server yesterday afternoon (college student privilege to be slacking in the mid day) and someone on the other team said the s-word. i was commanding so had time to type and just commented him to watch his language.. he apologized immediately. but a ton of people playing were telling me to report him and asked who it was.. i didn’t think it was that big of a deal that it needed to be reported but wanted to know what the community rules/thoughts were on it.. hard-line or is there slack... what seemed to happen was the guy was team killed while getting into a plane or tank or something and thought it was on purpose.. i don’t really know though.. always confused, Napalmenator |

Re: Appropriate language question
From what ive seen its not necessarily the word that is punished here, its the intent behind the word. Muttering sh*t or f*** after getting killed is completely different then calling someone a s*** faced motherf***er. That being said, there is a line where enough cursing is enough. Once in awhile is fine but if the only words coming out of your mouth are curses then thats not cool... Wait for an admin to chime in on this as this is just my opinion/observations on the subject.

Re: Appropriate language question
Think of FOX channel standards. Can the word be used on tv? You also have to think of context like TEMM mentioned.
Now in your example, you politely asked him to stop and the player kindly appologized and moved on. There is no need to report anything. Had the player continued or began causing trouble, that's where the report is warranted. Mistakes happen and words fly. We're all human and we're also held accountable for our actions. Again, look at the intent and the reaction after the player is informed of the rule infraction. Don't harp on them or knock them. Explain the rules once and don't get into any further while in-game.

Re: Appropriate language question
while on this topic, it doesnt matter if you curse on VOIP does it? i mean, if you call someone on your team a stupid f**** idiot i know thats not good, but i was playing a few days ago someone on my squad was like "awww sh** sorry bout that T- aw oops, sorry about the language" everyone on my squad sounded like they were in their 18-30's i mean, come on we arent sipping chardone and eating caviar, THIS IS WAR! Also its communication between 6 people. not everyone can hear it.
i wanted to tell the guy (i was SL) "naw its alright cuss up a storm i dont care" but i was unsure about how TG would react.

Re: Appropriate language question
Hi Riki,
the problem with that is that you might be okay with it, but others on your team might not. However if you (the SL) has given them permission then they might not feel able to ask others not to cuss. Additionally they could have their young son watching dad play - not a good example to set. Best to avoid it even on VOIP. Like asch said, the odd word can slip out, but if the person in question has not used it to insult someone else, and is apologetic about it then it's just a mistake.

Quote:
At TG, we work to raise a lot of standards to professional levels. Think of the language you'd expect to hear when you cash your check at a bank, and how certain terms might degrade your view of that bank. It is no different here. Restraining your more colorful language terms is functionally the same as restraining yourself from crack jumping or TKing someone because they took the plane you were going to fly. This restraint makes for a higher caliber of gameplay for all involved, and those who can not exercise this restraint will be removed.

Re: Appropriate language question
VOIP slips can happen, as long as they are rare.
Going to the effort of typing a swear word in a global message is another thing entirely. It shows intent and I don't want to see chat spammed with cussing all night. I will be far more stringent with text swearing than the occasional slip of the tongue. |
