BlackHawk Down Map

This is a follow up form the original post about the blackhawk down map, that was originated by iceman(happy iceman i gave you some credit there).

Anyways I was wondering if we could get some names of people who are willing to help out with this map. I don't care who leads the project but lets just get some names of people willing to help. My AIM name is Stubbe77. Feel free to give me a shout if ya wanna talk about it. I will be on vacation until wednsday. Hoping to have some progress by then .

Re: BlackHawk Down Map

I don't know anything about building of the map, but I would love to help design it. I would definately like to help in any way I can, whether it be testing or just suggestions based on the story (or not). I have read the book and seen the movie (and Blackburn, the guy who fell out of the helicopter, was my school resource officer but I'd rather not talk to him.)

Re: BlackHawk Down Map

No blackhawk on Karkand. And really, when have you seen a Blackhawk "Down" on Mashtuur? Sheesh...

Re: BlackHawk Down Map

This map is modelled as Mogadishu, Somalia October 3rd, 1993. The city that the US Rangers and Deltas fought for two days in against a hordes of enraged, high, Somalis. Two helicopters were shot down, the first was able to be protected until it could be salvaged/destroyed. All the while a rescue convoy was getting bad directions through a poorly thought out chain of command. The second to go down was both more and less fortunate than the first. You see, the pilots survived but there was no CSAR team to secure the crash site. Two Delta Snipers were dropped in via Little Birds, they were eventually overwhelmed and killed. The pilots were captured and after many days, finally returned to the US.

This map is not just one more urban map based on nothing in particular. (ie Mashtuur, Karkand) It is going to be set up to play out like the actual battle, give or take a bit for balance reasons.

Mogadishu is a living trash heap of a "city." Mashtuur is actually not at all bad compared to Mogadishu.

Why are you complaining about someone willing to make MORE, FREE maps for you to play on?

Re: BlackHawk Down Map

Im just saying "another" arabic city map? is that really what we want? fine, I'll play it..but it loses points for originality....dont get me wrong, I read the book, seen the movie...and I dig re-enactments on line but ....well.... carry on.

Re: BlackHawk Down Map

I think they "lost" those points for originality right around when they decided to model a real place and time. ;P

I'd like to pitch in at least a little if I can. I've been playing with the mod tools for a few hours today and it all seems mostly straightforward. (Uh...for basic stuff.)

Re: BlackHawk Down Map

hmm this topic didn't go where i thought it might, thanks to the two of you who said you'd help. Otherwise i didn't know we were getting rated on the map we wanted to make. You think its a dumb idea then fine don't talk or even read about it.

Re: BlackHawk Down Map

the way im making it is like this... the hummers are going to be very helpful in getting around the city... but cant get to most/certain CP's easily (using roadblocks). This will leave 2 good options, drop everyone off and let them go through the side alleys then pick them up when they are done... or send in a blackhawk, because of the closeness of most of the buildings throughout the map they marines will have to a)jump out or b)capture i different CP
The MEC will have the abillity to spawn on the rooftops of most of the buildings and will have FAV's at certain CP's. This will give the MEC a big advantage with height and speed... just need to watch out for the blackhawk.

Im going to test it over lan with friends once its finished... im going to see whether or not the USMC is in a real need for the mechanic/at soldiers, if not they will be taken out... the USMC will have enough firepower as it is

anyways...
