HLSW adds support for BF2

No administrative support yet, but you can use it to monitor and join the server, including joining the moment a slot opens up.

hlsw.org to educate yourself. The site is in transition. Let me know if you have questions.

Darkilla: In short, NS is pretty much really fast chess. With guns. Apophis: I haven't seen anyone say that SM's are better than non-SMs. Nordbomber: This is THE first server I've seen where either side can comeback from out of seemingly nowhere with the right teamwork. en4rcment: I have NEVER experienced the type of gameplay that I have found here. Nightly I am amazed at the personalities and gaming talent. Root: Welcome to TG. Feel free to punctuate your sentences correctly. Monkerz: Its gonna take all my skills to beat those boys off in the future.

Can you use additional parameters to sign you into an account automatically?

Re: HLSW adds support for BF2

HLSW will pass additional command line parameters to BF2.

I don't what, if any, parameters allow you to login automatically. If anyone knows of them, please share them in this or another thread.

Command line options found in a quick google:

For example, one of the most commonly requested commands is to run BF2 in 1280x1024 resolution (or another custom resolution) - particularly for LCD displays which display the best image at their native resolution. To do this, change your command line to look like this:

"C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2 Demo\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1280 +szy 1024

Note the addition of the +szx and +szy commands which respectively set the width and height of the resolution to be used. Substitute other values for other resolutions (e.g. +szx 1900 +szy 1200).

The following are the known command line commands for BF2, and descriptions where possible:

+dedicated - Start in dedicated server mode
+multi - Allow starting multiple BF2 instances
+joinserver - Join a server by IP address or hostname
+playername - Set the player name
+password - Set the server password when joining a server
+config - Sets path to the ServerSettings.con file to use
+maplist - Sets the path to the MapList.con file to use
+lowpriority - Run the game with slightly lower priority
+loadLevel - Set the level to load
+wx - Position game window on the screen at certain x-position
+wy - Position game window on the screen at certain y-position
+szx - Set resolution width
+szy - Set resolution height
+fullscreen - Start game in full screen mode
+nosound - Start game without sound
+demo - Sets the con-file with demo options
+maxPlayers - Sets max players
+gameMode - Sets the game mode
+modPath - Sets the mod path (default /mods/bf2)
+help - Displays help
+ranked - Allows GamSpy snapshot sending
+playerPassword - Sets the player password
+playNow - Use PlayNow functionality
+port - Specifies the network port to be used
+pbPath - Set the path to use for PunkBuster on multi-instance configs
+hostServer -
+checkForAvailablePatch -
+checkForPatch -
+ai -
Also note that the same quick search provided this alternative to HLSW:
http://www.bf2al.com/

I have used HLSW a lot in the past for HalfLife, and will try that one first myself, but the one above here may prove more usefull to some of you, dunno.

Please note that the list of command line options was from a website, which is referenced in the "Quoted By" portion of the quote.

Re: HLSW adds support for BF2

Just wanted to note how to setup HLSW for those who are new etc.

all you have to do is type in the IP and ports into the "IP/Port" field and the rest will be filled in for you automatically.

IE: Type in 70.86.19.218:16567:29900

and then the rest will fill in, and you will see the following server below in your server lists.

70.86.19.218:16567:29900 TacticalGamer.com - BF2 #1

Here is the info with ports etc to add the TG servers into HLSW:

70.86.19.218:16567:29900 TacticalGamer.com - BF2 #1
67.19.26.150:16567:29900 TacticalGamer.com - BF2 #2
70.84.146.202:16567:29900 TacticalGamer.com - BF2 Private

Re: HLSW adds support for BF2

As for the Auto-login feature, my searching of the web tells me that it's not working because the latest patch by DICE broke it... and that it *should* be fixed in the next patch. Looks like we get to wait for now.

Oh, and to get past all the intro movies etc, here are some good instructions:

The files to rename are: Dice.bik, EA.bik, Intro.bik, Legal.bik and Welcome.bik. This will mean the intro movies are all skipped as BF2 starts to load. If you find the movies playing in the background of the Login screen and Settings screens annoying, you can also rename the menu.bik and menu_loggedin.bik to something else as well.

Auto-login in HLSW is now working with patch 1.03. However, you have to manually add some additional parameters to HLSW (as explained at the HLSW website http://www.hlsw.org).

To get it to work, open HLSW, then click on Settings->Settings->Game->Battlefield 2 (double-click on it); then under the Additional Parameters box, add the following lines:

+username loginname +playerPassword loginpassword

where loginname & loginpassword are, of course, your own login name & password. It works like a charm. Auto-join, and now, auto-login, what can be better?

Please note: auto-login should not be used for our servers, as this will cause you to continually try to login to the server with 62 players, which, assuming you are not a supporting member, will get you kicked over and over (and then banned).

Not really an issue for me as a non-supporting member. I just set the reserved slots in HLSW for the TG server to 3 (instead of 2), so if the server goes down to 61, I'll be able to join without getting kicked.

If you are a non-sm, and want to do this, just right click on the server in HLSW, click on Properties, and set the Reserved Slots box from Auto to 3. Then have some patience, or...become a supporting member (I'm still thinking about it).

Re: HLSW adds support for BF2

I was going to announce this the other day (my first day playing with 1.03 patch) but I forgot, glad someone else did first.

It works out really well, and I have never had any problems with the login or the joining, etc. I highly recomend using it...
