TG vs GCHQ debrief

TG vs GCHQ debrief:
Squad: CANDY CANE

Round 1:
Gulf Of Oman
USMC

The game started chaotically. Having set out some preliminary squads we lost Bommmando with some connection problems. Hero stepped in to cover (bravely!), but GCHQ were very keen to get right at us. I spawned on the west beach and about 5 seconds later was killed from the GCHQ bomber pilot. They came at us hard and in numbers, and I think we were caught with our pants down as we lost both the west beach and then another beach flag in quick succession. Our arty went down, and it was only the occasional recpature of the beach flag that prevented ticket bleed against us, and kept us to within only a 30 or so ticket defecit. I set about trying to recapture the west flag, whilst the rest of the team valiantly defended the beach. With our dedicated engineer Xink in the side I knew that my main goal would be to restore artillery support whilt suppressing the enemy on the west flag.

This overall worked with some moderate success, but with flag losses and regains along the beach it was chaotic. GCHQ managed to cut our flag from behind us, catching us against the sea and eliminating us, meaning a respawn 2 flags away. At this point I thought we were going to be driven into the sea. Skirting the flag on our way back to the arty we split up, and fortunately managed to acheive both objectives, as our arty was restored and we capped the flag. At this point Bommando returned, and set his plan into action. Forgoing the simple but chaotic idea of just sending troops to capture their back flags we fought hard to regain the western beach, and keep the artillery up. Overall in terms of a report that was pretty much the end of Candy Cane's story.

We recaptured and held the flag, despite enemy pushes. Flag c4, a tank, and an engineer certainly helped our cause, but GCHQ were very quick to take out the arty at every available opportunity, and once we regained the flag we were also subject to enemy bombing once again. However our plan paid off, and we slowly started to gaina tactical advantage on them which saw a greater ticket rate. Passing them at 50, we slowly fought back hard to get a bitterly fought win.

One thing I did notice about the enemy bomber is that he seemed to be 'bombing blind' - that is to say that his plan was more to drop as many bombs as possible rather than fewer more accurate bombs. Although it paid off well in terms of number of kills when we were grouped around the flag I soon dictated that none of us should be within 20m of the flag unless the situation really merited it. At that point I saw bombs being dropped onto our flag with no kills registered. In fact one time he even took out an APC on his own team that had moved in to cap the flag.

TG:USMC - 21
GCHQ:MEC - 0

Round 2:
Gulf Of Oman
MEC

This game started a little more calmly, and I was able to set up a quick plan without disruption. Defending the hotel I knew the key points were to use the armour to maintain a defensive line, and then counter-attack after the first enemy wave. Their first assault came quickly (as we expected) but the technical and few infantry were no match for our tank and APC. Having repelled the first wave I received the order to attack the beach, and sent my team of 3 out to take it. Mirfee grabbed the vacant enemy armour, and the 3 of them capped the flag. Knowing it was better to lose an APC that spawned at my base rather than one that spawned at 'theirs' I asked Mirfee to retreat to a central 'reserve' position, whereby he could guard the road and quickly assist either Xink and blank at the front line, or me at the back.

The front armoured line held the enemy well, whilst the c4 i placed on the flag combined with hours of practicing long ranged carbine shooting in the TG servers as the spec ops class put paid to many disorganised attacks. My vantage point in the hills also allowed me to give good info to my squad (allowing Mirfee to get a very impressive kill on an enemy APC that came from the construction site).

I have included a map of our defence. The first infantryman to make it to the flag jumped in the pool (the hammers denote c4 placement), which was nice to see from an outsmarting point of view. Also had an enemy APC roll in up the road. We had one major push against us, but this was repelled with the assitance of Bommando, who commanded the air assets perfectly. Not only did we get a jet to take out the enemy attack helo very quickly whenever we needed it, but on that large push we had all the air assets helping us when we needed it.

The other teams were obviously doing a good job as well as we had achieved ticket bleed, although of course I wasn't paying much attention to outside my own control zone! Unfortunately the server crashed, but GCHQ conceeded due to our large lead.

TG:MEC - 298
GCHQ:USMC - 153

Total:
TG: 319
GCHQ: 153

Well that was how my squad got on - how did everyone else do?
(ps ribbons to come as soon as I sort the roster out!)

That's really good C4 placement.

Re: TG vs GCHQ debrief

The first round was intense. That bomber did us in until Wlkfyn had us stay away from the flag. They pushed hard against us and it was a close battle to the end. The second round was better for us. We got a handle on their tactics and it made it a little tougher on then. Plus the fact that we had Bommando more the the second round. Kudo's to Hero for stepping up the first round.

Re: TG vs GCHQ debrief

My squad was on the opposite side of the map, trying to hold both the USMC arty base, and our north western base. At first the enemy tried to attack us through the river and up near the fenceline, but we resisted them. We were getting a lot of the UAV and i could see that the flag was undefended, and a full squad was on the fencline. I had me and my medic flank and take the flag, while i kept the apc and a humvee back to hold off the attackers. Eventually the resistane in the middle was killed off, and we held those 2 flags for the rest of the match as well as keep their arty down. Cool to see how much ya can do with just a 4 man squad in a TG scrim.

Re: TG vs GCHQ debrief

...And I harassed them at the construction site, just for good measure. It was a pretty elastic defense we had.
