No attack aircraft = interesting gameplay?

Is anyone interested in playing rounds in which fighters, bombers and attack choppers are not used? Just infantry, land vehicles and transport choppers. The game dynamics would be quite different I think, and possibly interesting. Only one way to find out...

Sounds good, but no choppers at all.

Re: No attack aircraft = interesting gameplay?

I think we'd need the transport choppers if only to move squads spawning at the aircraft carrier over to land.

How could we arrange to have "no attack aircraft" games? Perhaps have a specific password(?) night set up and announced beforehand to have such games?

I'm for this. Might be something to keep server 2 occupied with.

Re: No attack aircraft = interesting gameplay?

We already have those games:

Karkand
Mashtuur
Sharqi

They have limited or no air assets and always appear in the rotation at least once per night.

If you find yourself on the receiving end of air superiority too often, then I find the best thing to do is do as the Romans and take to the air yourself to neutralise the threat.

I like the current map balance and even though it can unbalance the game at times, it makes the game varied and interesting.

I don't play on the TG server..but would still like ot give my opinion. :P
I think having the aircraft in the game improves things. It adds a more diverse field of combat. That' why I play Battlefield 2...because it's multi-level. It's just straight infantry or all vehicle..it's a mix of both worlds and gives you a much more diverse style of play and challenge.

Re: No attack aircraft = interesting gameplay?

Cpt - that's right. Other games w/out aircraft already exist. Those games serve their purpose.
BF2 is for those who enjoy the inclusion of vehicles in all the elements. Play BF2 the way it was built. Play the other games the way they were built.

Meanwhile, Bommando has made an excellent suggestion. Having got fed up himself with air power, he got in a jet to take them out.
In the process, not only has he learned how to fly well, he has also made himself a much better commander, and a grunt with a much more well-rounded understanding of the battlefield.
When he SLs now, he is MUCH better equipped to help his squad deal or cope with enemy air threats. From the experience of flying, he knows how to tell them to avoid aircraft threats, when they're NOT a threat, and how to inform/advise the CO.

I would like to play these maps without any M203's and those grenade-launchers. Everytime I play those maps, atleast 75% of my deaths are from those shots.

Not bitching or anything, just kind of gets dull and sort of takes away from the infantry fights I like.

I think this is a good point, but I think the OP is looking for more play options, and it is worth considering.

I don't want to remove any of the fun from the guys who like to fly alot, but it might be a nice change to play those maps which are currently "air maps" as "ground maps". It would be like taking some of the maps we know very well and making them into a whole new experience. It would only be temporary.

And to even the deal, at least for the helo pilots, we can spawn some attack helos on Karkand and Mashtuur.

Yes, all of these changes are possible server-side. (although some server-side changes seem to just make the client CTD and then make me cry)

Hah no icky dont give them those crazy ideas! The maps that have air have them for a reason, and the ones that dont also dont have them for a reason. If either of those maps had an attack helo id cry.

This was exactly my point. Imagine the beach battles on Oman if there were no bombers, just pounding it out as troops on the beach. Now that would be a blast!

Re: No attack aircraft = interesting gameplay?

Sharqi was a nightmare last night for the USMC. We lost the TV station before I joined and spent the rest of the map (ending in 450-0) being cut to pieces by some clever piloting and gunning of the attack helo. IMHO this map doesn't need the added element of the attack helo. We also have given a significant advantage for the MEC beyond the intended map balancing becuase of our no UCB asset stealing rule. We have a situation where the USMC has NO recourse if their chopper is stolen or the TV station CP lost.
