Food for thought on infantry game.

Posted on EA-UK forums:

"What BF2 lacks that BF42 had in spades was that even as infantry you had a sense you were in control of your own destiny on the battle field.

This lack of feeling in control is DIRECTLY linked to the "cone of confusion" all the firearms are tainted with. It is basic psycology... humans on a very basic level reject randomness and fear the unknown. What Dice did to make this game accessible (i.e. not dying so much) is an affront to most people's sense of how things should work in the universe.

People are simply getting tired of having to accept the small infusion of randomness this game offers.

If you constantly expose people to situations where they have to deal with unpredictability they will, over time, look for ways to avoid those situations. This is manifesting itself in people leaving the game out of frustration or boredom."

Basicly the guy is saying that beacuse of the random performance of infantry kits that was setup by DICE to make the infantry game more forgiving, some people tend to get bored and leave the infantry side of the game much faster then it should happen. I can't even count the amount of times I ran into an enemy, had a draw on him, aimed at his neck, let loose a 3 round burst only to see him turn around and nade my feet killing me

On the other hand, choppers are mostly nice and predictable, 8 rockets into amor and they are gone. Aim the TV missle properly and it kills. Only thing that is iffy sometimes is the collision/bounding boxes on trees.

So very true. I'd rather make it easier for me to die, if only my rifle would hit what I was aiming at on the first shot! Make the recoil have a nasty effect on accuracy, but don't nerf a well aimed shot!

i jsut take in good stride the times where i shoot a guy with an M95 in the back of the head he turns around shoots off a shotgun round and nails me straight the head with a pellet killuing me instantly.

i agree with both of you guys, but do you know how many people would playt the game if you died from a bullet a mile away. i just think it should be like in Americas Army, on ehit to the back and your condition red and bleeding

yes, the colission boxes on trees are way screwed up. i just touch a tree and i blow up. and whey you try to land the choppers, you have to land them perfectly level and the front always goes foreward on them. i landed a few slightly sideways and they just rolled over on their side and laid there to explode a few seconds later.

Re: Food for thought on infantry game.

Choppers aren't always as predictable as that. When i was gunning more often i would get 4-5 pass throughs when firing TV missles at enemy choppers, and don't get me started on the minigun bug and the misfires.

Re: Food for thought on infantry game.

At least you can deal with the mini-gun inaccuracy bug by rotating through the viewing maximums. I haven't noticed any TV missles going through my targets yet, though I might have wrote those off to my own inaccuracy...

Re: Food for thought on infantry game.

I never bought EA's argument that the game is more fun when you stay alive longer. Just being alive is not fun. Killing enemy is fun. You need accuracy to be able to do that.

Besides, the vehicle weapons are accurate. Nerfing infantry just makes people go for the vehicles. More so.

Randomness is bad because it takes a game of skill and turns it into a game of luck.

But I think the real problem with BF2 compared to BF42 is the maps are not as fun. They're prettier, but not as much fun. Maybe the control points are too spaced out.

Here, here. So any chance the 'randomness' can be modded out or put the game in a 'hardcore' mode? Taking out the randomness would force folk to pay more attention to suppression fire aswell.

Re: Food for thought on infantry game.

Mostly the 'cone of fire' that all infantry rifles/pistols are blessed with. Especialy the support weapons. If you still don't know what I mean, go take a any rifle stand few yards away from a wall in-game and start firing then take a look at the bullet spread.
