Tonight's Special on the Members-Only Server
As a special event tonight, I have thrown up the AAS mod on the BF2 Private Server and have upped the map size to 32 players. I would like to give this mod a good workout so we can see how well it plays out.
For those unfamilliar with AAS. It was the popular game type from Joint Operations known as Advance and Secure. It was also present in various Battlefield 1942 mods in "Push" maps. The point of AAS is to move through a map, flag by flag, pushing the enemy towards their spawn point. You can only move forward to one (sometimes two) flags at any given point in time and you must hold a defensive position at that flag in order to advance forward to secure the next flag. It should be a lot of fun, and I hope to see a lot of you there to test it out!

Re: Tonight's Special on the Members-Only Server
BTW: AAS is a server-sided mod only. There is nothing to download on the client end.

Currently the server is set up for 48 players on 32 player maps.

This should be great. AAS was perhaps the best thing about JO. I much prefer the idea of a definable frontline, rather than just a hectic, spread out battlefield.

Re: Tonight's Special on the Members-Only Server
i think that was great....the AAS. one person can change the way a map is going just by moving up to the next CP and getting it, i know cause i did it.
great job all the 42nd and 7th and every one else who played!

Re: Tonight's Special on the Members-Only Server
I think it works great under 2 conditions. One, you need a limited number of people like we have on the private server. Two, it only works well on maps with bleed, otherwise there's no reason to advance, you can just hold at the base you feel you can defend the best.

Re: Tonight's Special on the Members-Only Server
I liked it and agree with FriedFish. Unless there is bleed, there is no point though. Only a problem on some maps. For example: Dragon Valley. The USMC had the PLA pushed back to almost the last flag and still lost by 10 tickets.

Re: Tonight's Special on the Members-Only Server
Agreed.
AAS definitely focuses the battles more while allowing us to play on larger maps. Instead of the same one or two flags on the 16-player maps, we can now fight over four or five. It seems like a serious concerted effort is required to dislodge a defending squad(s) from a flag. The successful flag attacks I saw involved at least a couple of armored vehicles on the attackers' side, plus supporting infantry. I guess this really reinforces the necessity of superior numbers in the attack, but like Trooper said above you still need to keep an eye out while defending for the lone guy who sneaks into the capture perimeter. Definitely a different playing experience. Thanks to all for playing tonight, and thanks again to Apo for putting AAS up on the Private Server. What else do you guys think? Do we want to play this mod again on SM-only night? If so, limit play only to maps with bleed? |
