This doesn't come off to me as a credible story. Terrorists in wetsuits? Put people in the water to sleep to be interrogated later (when they'd most likely drown instead)? And just how does a dolphin manage to trigger darts on a harness to fire?

It's funny and entertaining, but not believable. Then again, our military has done some really stupid things before.

Re: Dolphins - Flipper With Firearms

My issue with this is that the military thinks too small. I mean, Dr. Evil had sharks with frickin' lasers, man!

Dolphins with darts is soooo 20th century.

The Navy has beens using Dolphins for a long time to search ships hulls for mines/bombs, etc. I've read about them being trained to search for enemy combat divers too. It's not such a stretch and certainly not "really stupid". Unless by stupid you mean they kept them in their pens with poison darts on their heads 24/7 and somewhow missed the hurricane warnings and didn't evacuate them and they escaped into open water searching for scuba divers. Yes, that would be really stupid and totally unbelievable IMO.

Now figgin laser beams would be schweeet!

No, I know that the Navy has been using dolphins for a while. What I find stupid is the general theory presented in this report. Putting someone to sleep in the water is pretty dumb, they're pretty much going to drown unless you get to them immdiately. And the fact that they've been trained to recognize people in wetsuits as targets seems pretty silly as well, since I doubt the terrorists are going to suit up before blowing up a ship. I'm willing to give on this last part, but not on the whole sleep thing. And I still want to know how these darts are fired from a harness.

They can. Lasers are, at their base, just highly focussed light energy.

My best friend is working on his PHD with lasers. I'll ask him about the underwater thing.
