Talking AA information/opinion/suggustion...

Hello fellow gamers,

I started playing AA when it was originally released and have always loved the game, thinking it the best squad tactical shooter out there, and the price, you just can't beat.

But something strange happened on AA's long road... cheaters and hacks became very popular with the game, punkbuster was added and does a good job but not great, then the game went to the side of the dedicated gamer in AA, what I mean by that that when a game started, no one used team tactics or support, all the Rambo's ran off to there favorite spot to get there most kills title, this was after everyone threw there grenades at each others spawn of course... this simply killed the game IMO... I left it for a long time, and if you still play on public servers you will see the same Rambo type gamers doing the same thing... it's a shame because played right, played as a team, played with proper military tactics this game is FUN AS HELL.

Which brings me to the reason for this post, I'm just a fellow TG player, so this is all opinion or simple recommendation, especially to members just getting into AA...

1. If you want to take this game the way it was meant to be, then stop by the official site and read about the maps, squad roles, and weapon systems and what there used for... all this is on the "Game Intel" page...
http://www.americasarmy.com/
http://www.americasarmy.com/intel/squadroles.php
http://www.americasarmy.com/intel/missions.php

2. then I suggest a little reading on this article I wrote, which was mainly geared to AA, yes I feel shame for this self promotion, lol... The first part is about SWAT 4, my favorite police simulator... the second part is mostly about AA, my favorite military simulator...
http://www.simhq.com/_land/fps_021a.html

3. and if that wasn't enough reading, then in your AA folder there is a number of pdf documents, one being the manual with everything in it about the game, another, smaller one being a quick start guide for you new players.

4. and finally read any of the required reading from the SOP's and GO's of TG.

now I want to get into a few things that you may or may not know about America's Army... the game...

a) Honor: you start off at level 10 of honor, you lose honor points for killing or shooting friendlies and civilians, you gain honor by killing enemies, accomplishing a task, leading when your a leader (you get points for men that are still alive in your team/squad)... the lower levels of honor are like 500 to 1000 points for the next level, they require more points as you go up in rank (rank meaning honor levels)... if I find the chart I once had for all the honor points, I'll post it here. If you lose to much honor you will be kicked from a server, or go so low in honor rank that you may not get into set honor servers... so in the beginning... don't shoot or toss a nade till you know it's the enemy, take on roles of the team leader and squad leader, and also the medic (you get points for healing others so heal DAMN IT, lol)... if your a high honor player, pull support and let the low honor man capture a point or get the bonus points.
Once you reach a certain level, honor level means nothing... you don't want to lose honor, but your more willing to play as a team also.

b) Know your role, know your team/squad: If your a SAW gunner on alpha team, then follow your team leader wherever he goes... the closer you are to him when you engage an enemy the better shot you will be, go prone, hit H to set up the bi-pod legs and lay 3 second burst of suppressive fire at the enemy... remember thats your job, your team should be there with you, with another team flanking for the kill while you keep the enemy pinned, busy...
Stay with your team, you'll see what team your assigned to A B C D in your hud... you'll then see your team leader in the ticker tape, so follow him and stay close, (but not to close for a nade to take you all out). If your a team leader, take charge of your team, "Alpha Team follow me to the left or north", if a squad leader, keep everyone on the objective... tell the teams what you want, "Alpha team head north to high ground and suppress target area, Bravo team move to the center", then when **** hits the fan, coordinate an attack.

c) obey orders: If your assigned a team, follow that team leader even if he don't know what he's doing... follow and support him, then on the next round rotate positions so everyone gets a chance to lead.

d) Teams of two: even if your on a server with only two or three players.. stay together... 2 or three guns is better then one... If I see someone alone, I'll shadow behind them, when I see them get engaged or shot, I will try and position myself for the revenge kill... realize that when a 1 vs 1 occurs, you'll see them dodging each other and shooting at each other... get in a quick position to see the enemy, go prone, and fire... thats team work, not a kill steal.

e) Go prone, or kneel, you fire better and more accurate then doing that bunny hop or jive left and right crap.

f) Use smoke and bangs as needed... remember three to five second rushes in the open... if you have a Hugh danger area to cross, part of the team covers while you throw smoke then move across one at a time, then run zig zagging, thats a proper tactic not a cheat.

g) and finally enjoy the game the way is was meant to be enjoyed...as a team, not a better then all shooter... if the admins seeing someone constantly running off on there own as soon as the game starts, warn then kick... there not needed... teams stick together, play your role, and for god sake if your a leader...then lead. lol

hope to see you guys on the virtual battlefield soon.

Re: AA information/opinion/suggustion...

I think I first started playing AA when Gentoo released their LiveCD with the game on it.. Forget what version. Back then, it was a nice change from Counter Strike, but as the AA dev team made the game more realistic, it got harder and harder to play lonewolf and do well on your own. I liked the game, but it was hard to find people that worked together.

I'm going to have to completely re-learn the game now.. playing last night 1v1 against Apo made it painfully obvious But I look forward to working as a team and playing the game the "right" way now!

Remember, 3 to 5 sec rushes work for EVERYTHING. Ever since magnum told me about them a while back, I've been using them in all games basically.
