Joining a Unit

Hey all,

I did three searches using different wording but didn't find a suitable thread to answer my question. If I've missed something please point me to the right thread.

I've been playing BF2 on the TG server for about a month now. I knew after one round I had found a gaming home. Standing orders to join a squad and following orders from a leader make so much sense and improve gameplay so much I just don't understand why more people aren't doing it. I've had great fun and I'm learning a lot about how to play BF2 effectively in a team environment.

You can't go far in this community and not see various units such as the 7th and the 42nd and the 341st (unit #?) MIP. I'd very much like to become a member of one of the units but I don't quite know how to make it happen. I searched the forums but don't see any mechanisim for becoming involved on that level.

I'll preface your responses by telling you I'm on track to become an SM in mid to late December. I know that is the first step. I also realize that becoming involved in one of these units means paying your dues (gamewise as well as $$). I'm not shy about doing that. I didn't expect that just asking would mean an invite to join but I don't know what else to do to begin the process.

Though I've been playing Bf2 since the demo came out, I look around and see the many talented players and I'm humbled. thanks to all the SL's and SM's who have been so patient as I gain more experience and work hard towards becoming a TG worthy player.

Re: Joining a Unit

http://www.tacticalwiki.com/index.ph...2_7th_Infantry Asch put together a real nice tacticalwiki page on the 7th. I'm not a member their anymore but their is some great info in their. I believe all the in house squads require you to be a supporting members. Someone correct me if I am wrong on that one.

Re: Joining a Unit

Sounds like you are on the right track.

I would PM the team leader of the unit you want to join.

Here is a good general thread:

http://www.tacticalgamer.com/showthr...ghlight=1stmip

The 2nd just formed. I'm not sure of their overall mission, but you can contact Trooper[SNPR] and see what they are all about.

The 7th is a collective of very good BF2 players, and is led by Asch. The 7th is designed so that players can choose when and how they participate, but be more or less interchangable in achieving an objective.

The 1st MIP is led by John CANavar, and it the Mechanized Infantry.

The 531st are StrikeFear's air squad.

TG-LEAD is yer mom's armored squad.

Then there is the 42nd. We use real life tactics combined with natural talent to lead Tactical Gamer to victory. We train every Thrusday, and invite players to join us as a "tryout." Contact USN_Squid when you become an SM.

Re: Joining a Unit

actually I was just doing something about this!

best thing is to PM anyone with that tag - then they can direct you to the relvevant person to contact. I'm working on putting up a post about each squad, might be a little while of yet tho.

Re: Joining a Unit

Thanks for the tips guys--and the fast turn around time. I'm at work now and will take some time to think about what to do next. Looks like I've got plenty of information to get going--

Mateo--I see your in Brookline...Are you a native Bostonian? I'm in Quincy--small world eh?

Does that explain the Red Sox Avatar?

Not a native to Boston. Been here since '93. Came for school, and got stuck.

Where in Quincy?

There are a couple of more Massachusetts folks here; Black Death5 is west of Boston somewhere, rs_al is in Medford, _ender_ is up in Tewksbury or something..I'm probably missing several more.

And Apohis and Luna are just down the street a bit in Rhode Island.

The avatar? Nah, that's the 42nd's logo. It's based off an old Army insignia.

Re: Joining a Unit

I'm in North Quincy--work in West Quincy for a non profit technical publisher. Graduate of Quincy College -- born and bred in Quincy...sounds boring and it kinda is... but I've been around the country too. Used to travel for a living and that was fun before it got old. My wife hates to travel...very much a homebody.

The avatar--I should've been more specific...when creating an account the user cp has a box that offers a preexising avatar for use...one of them is the bosox logo.

Nice to hear there are a few of us around the bay state. Having lots of fun playing and getting to know peeps from around the world...Bommando in Australia comes to mind first...only because I played on his squad last night.

Re: Joining a Unit

1. I don't think all teams require players to be SMs.
2. Check my sig for info on the fighter squadron, VMFA-531. (SM-required)
3. To clarify your next question, it IS possible to be in the 531st and ALSO be in another squad. This is not usually the case.
