Dealing with new people

This is related to this thread http://www.tacticalgamer.com/americas-army-general-discussion/61123-imo-need-passworded-sometimes.html

How do you deal with random pubbie guys joining the server? I assume we will be using teamspeak as there is no VOIP.

How do you execute any kind of tactics if one or more of your squad members cannot hear what you say?

Am I correct in saying there is more than one squad in each team? If that is correct how do you deal with communication if there is only two teamspeak channels? Do people in Alpha squad and Bravo squad talk at the same time and get confused with each other?

Are there TG guys playing every night on the server?

Thankyou to anyone who answers some of my questions.

I am currently downloading the 2.5 patch....

Re: Dealing with new people

We've only had the server up as an honor server for one night so far, so it's kinda hard to know how things will work out. If it's all TG players on the server, and everyone is on TS, then things may get confusing with a full server. Last night, all the TG players were on TS it seemed like. But we weren't trying out tactics either, because no one really knew the maps and we were having trouble just staying alive

America's Army has a dynamic number of fire teams depending on how many people are on your team. I believe you start out with a squad leader and a single 4 man fireteam. Once that gets filled, then a 2nd fireteam of usually 2 people will open up, then another 4 man, then another 2. The 2 man fireteams will usually have a rifleman and a sniper.. 4 man teams most likely have 3 rifleman (one with M203) and a machine gunner with a SAW.

Re: Dealing with new people

How it's suppose to work is this....

Were all on teamspeak, in our own defense or offense channel... but yes I know it can change with without notice with auto-balance on... but even if TG all gets on one side and lets the other side stay open, which will be hard to coordinate I believe...

The simple matter of the game is this... the CAPT BARS or the SFC, depending on what mission your on is the man in charge, he decides how the squad will play the game...

Then there is fire teams, A, B, C and D... if your a team leader, (rank in the top right of the HUD) then your in charge of your team... you as the team leader will have the CAPT or SFC up in your HUD tape showing you where he is... just for reference...

If your assigned to a fire team, on the top right next to your location you will see a small letter in a box, thats what team your in... you should have your team leader icon up in your HUD tape....

FIRE TEAMS A, B, C, and D move together and never should split up... The CAPT or AFC then tells the fire team leaders where to go, the fire team move, when the fire teams reach contact they engage and go prone or take cover, the AFC or CAPT, should then send another fireteam to flank the enemy the first fire team is engaging...

But way to explain this is in story form, from one of the in game missions...

Fade In: Game Starts...

SQD LEADER (either the CAPT or the SFC): "Alpha team move to the East towards objective B", "Bravo team head North towards the town center", "Charlie team go to high ground and provide cover/look out assistance"...

Teams move out towards assignment... (notice only the squad leader and maybe the team leaders should be talking unless you spot an enemy and want to give there location BEFORE your death)...

Alpha team leader: "Alpha team is underfire from the courtyard East of our location, laying suppressive fire"... (all in Alpha take cover or go prone, and open fire...object is to keep the enemy pinned and busy)...

Sqd Leader: "Roger Alpha team, sending help... Bravo team, need you to move from your location to the Northeast and engage enemies firing on Alpha team,"

Bravo Team leader: "moving out, I hear gunfire to my Southwest"

Bravo team moves in the direction, locates where the hostiles are and flanks for the kill...

This is just a small example of how team work is used in AA... you can also use the in game squad radios, whispers, or yells to identify enemies, take cover, advised that your hit etc ect...

Remember: If you get wounded, dis-engage the battle, call for a medic by pushing M, and then let the medic come and heal you... don't expect a medic to heal you while your in a firefight... dis-engage and move to cover first...

Medics push M to stat they are on there way... the medics will appear in the HUD tape when you call one.

Same can be used when reaching an objective... Alpha Squad enter and clear objective A, Bravo team provide security for A...etc ect

more to come in time, when i get the tactics article and SOP completed.

AA isn't a perfect game for cooperative action... we have to work with it's limits... always remember, that even if your not following the above rules... at least team up with someone.. if you see one or two people running off on there own, join (follow) them... 2 or 3 guns are ALWAYS better then 1.

Try and learn to use the in game sqd radio commands ASAP.

Re: Dealing with new people

I'm surprised that with all the evolving this game has had, it still does not have a built-in VOIP feature.

Re: Dealing with new people

After re-reading my post.. I've confused myself... lol

the bottom line is this:

1. It's a game, have fun.

2. Stay with your assigned fireteam and work together.

3. Learn to use the in-game quick commands like your squad radio.

America's Army is a great game, but it's not the best designed co-opertive tactical shooter... you have to work at teamwork more in this game... Some of the features of BF2, exspecially the squad/team assignments and VOIP would be nice...

I'm in close with the developer and the beta testers, (was suppose to be one, but never followed through), so maybe we can address co-opertive action in the next update.

Enjoy... see you on the battlefield.
