This isn't a race.


This is a car from GT4.



This is an APC from BF2.


Notice the differences. The APC lacks the streamlined design of the race car, the added armor and weapon systems increase its weight substantially, the extra wheels waste engine power and it's gearing is all off. It isn't a very good vehicle to race in. So why oh why do people do it anyway? If you're driving an APC and your squadmate is driving a tank, SLOW DOWN. You don't get bonus points for beating the tank to the flag. You get AT rockets and death.

Similarly, let's say you've just been given an order to attack a flag, you're in a piece of armor and someone else is grabbing another piece of armor from a different CP. Now if your first thought is 'Great! A headstart!' you should be playing:



I shouldn't have to be telling people the obvious ... but I do, every time I get in one of these things.

Yeah. Tank goes in, then when the AT guys try to blow it away, hit them with the APC's gun. Just because your faster doesn't mean you need to get there first.

Actually you do. The BF2 scoring system was intended to increase teamplay, but I think they went against that with the whole "first to flag gets extra points" idea. It discourages people from staying behind, supporting and providing cover fire.

Thank goodness this isn't a ranked server.

yeap, heavy takes the hits, apc's take down the targets after they flag the shooters,
though apcs advantage on the field is their speed

Too bad BF2 doesn't have physics like GTA3/VC/SA. You could race around at 100mph in tanks by firing the gun backwards repeatedly. Helloooo recoil.

We need a "cars as boats" and a "low gravity" mod now. Oh, and one that let's us change all the character models into strippers. And Hawaiian shirts - we need those too.

<serious> Yeah, try to coordinate your armor attacks. The other day, the 42nd was attacking a CP on Fushe Pass. Our CP spawned 3 pieces of armor. One of our APCs went in first to draw fire and distract. When the enemy had turned to engage, the other 2 pieces entered from the opposite direction and wrecked shop. This is one good way to maximize your asset's power. </serious>

Good point but I think it should be continued to all armor. Armor is pretty much dead if it lacks infantry support. You need the infantry to protect its blind spots and take out approaching threats. I know other vehicles can help in this but a tank or apc cant climb a roof, run down a narrow alley or especially with the 1.03 patch cap a flag by itself. So tanks and APCs sometimes need to remember that they have infantry behind them. Yes the APC can carry the troops but I think most people see riding in the back of the Ap...You will respawn in 15..14..13..12...

They had 2 seater golf buggies in JO:E (Joint Ops: Escalation. Don't think they had them in regular JO). Used to have a lot of fun in those, especially watching everyone on the map stop what they were doing at the time to try to destroy those little buggies driving by. The other fun part was putting some satchels in the back, sneaking up to some armor (or people), and remote detonating it while running away on foot.

Also, if I'm not mistaken, aren't they adding dirt bikes to the bf2 expansion?

Correction: From the screen shots of BF2:Special Forces, it looks like jet skis and ATVs.
