Karkand 10/29, 12:30am

Want to thank members of Squad 7 who made Karkand a rousing success. Gunrack, Bane2, Aculle, Devilman1974, and Bf2Xstyle all played key parts in our success. Our squad started off on the west side of the map with a push on the Suburb flag. The Defense had the mounted machine gun working to good use and slowed our advance long enough for their armor to work it's way to our position.

20 seconds later we respawned on new US territory, the Square. Noticing that there was a squad pushing from the west to the suburb, we circled into the flag from the south east. MEC Tank Driver Corridon made us pay for that wiping out our squad, except for me. I couldn't believe it when right next to me, the tank blew smoke and Corridon hopped out to repair it. Needless to say, we now had a tank to use. The suburb flag was swapped over and that began our push on the Train accident (undefended), the Gatehouse (undefended) before we were pushed off the Gatehouse flag.

Soon after, the MEC pushed hard for the Train Accident and did get it back, but at the expense of losing their main flag. From there on, it was all over as the US pushed the MEC back to the suburb flag and the square. Gunrack played huge as an Anti tank and held the MEC tank for much of the game. Bane helped repair their tank and later manned an MEC APC to help defend against the MEC's counterattacks. Devilman1974 helped support our defense at the Cement Factory and the Train Accident late in the game. BF2XStyle was big in our push to the suburbs as well as holding an APC late to defend the Cement Factory and the Train Accident. I am most proud of Squadmate Acculle as he spent a great deal of time keeping the MEC assets down. More than any other role in our squad, that had the biggest impact on the game even if it didn't have the greatest excitement.

Thanks for all the guys who played and make playing fun!

Our commander was strangely obsessed with taking the west side. So our squad kinda gave up after a while and went at you all with knives.

That was me. I would think it fair to say that Karkand was perhaps the worst game I've ever CO'ed. What is particularly frustrating is that I just came off of commanding a brilliant round, helping to bring home a solid win for the USMC on Oman.

I'm going to have to do a lot of thinking and replaying in my head to determine what happened and when, in order to circumvent the obstacles that I ran up against on that map.

Re: Karkand 10/29, 12:30am

I was there on Oman on the USMC side, with Lucky Shot as our SL. You did a heck of a job, Diceman, as our CO on that map, with the final score being 474-0. I believe we controlled most of the flags except one for a majority of the round. We were just squeezing them in at the Construction site and then later the Hotel. A majority of the map our squad under Lucky Shot held the village flag, and later we went to help reclaim the Hotel flag with some help from another squad. Anyway, great job on Oman, Dice, and later SLing on Zatar.

I don't know what happened with you as CO on the MEC side on Karkand, Dice. Our squad on the USMC side under Lucky Shot didn't seem to have too much trouble taking and holding flags, except for maybe the train accident a couple of times. I believe one of our USMC squads had gotten through to the Factory and had taken it, and after that, we took the east side. But that's usually how the map goes, so I don't know what was going on with the MEC side to have them lose by so much (322-0).

Anway, kudos to Lucky Shot as SL, and for the rest of our squad, for a job well done on Karkand. I was feeling a little sorry for Aculle having to sit back and keep the MEC's arty down, but he didn't seem to mind too much. I'm not sure, but that may have also helped to accelerate the MEC's loss.

Diceman, just some advice, taking the suburb is a dangerous gambit if you happen to notice me pulling troops from it. The MECs best choice is to hold one point on the west side and have the standard river battle, with the one point allowing you to launch assaults on their back or take out assets.

This will be the third time I have used my new improved Karkand plan. I think each time I have heard a SL say, "Are you sure you want to leave the suburb?". Its not an easy plan to work because it requires almost perfect timing to hit the them when they are stretched thin and vulnerable.

Re: Karkand 10/29, 12:30am

Dice, I think the issues were the east side. Isn't it always? It was to easy for USMC to get there and grab a flag then harrass the rest of the map from there. Once we got back to a static front on the river, and being down 70-80 tickets, we probably should have dug in until you were able to get 1 squad across to cap a flag, then slowly roll up from there.

I saw what you were trying to do, and it's possible that it may be effective but I think it would be a roll of the dice too.

My squad did well that map, the guys were great and patient with everything. Then of course we all came at you with knives out and what do we get for our trouble? Shotgun blasts to the head!

Oh, and Oman. We shall never, never speak of that again. I've never been bombed, rocketed, gunned down more by airpower. It was something awful.

It never happened, it was a bad dream.

Re: Karkand 10/29, 12:30am

HMMM...

I joined Dragon Valley (must've been 2nd one of the night) and the only squad available had just the squad leader (whose name I didn't recognize). I spawned as medic and we just helped other squads defend the flags China already held. The highlight was when an APC attacked the power plant so I spawned as AT and helped take it out, then shot Santa with the little wussy AT gun, then hid in some brush since the UAV showed there was an enemy nearby. I laid still trying to find the guy and lo-and-behold he hops up and starts running at me. Since I was AT I was going to wait until he was right on top of me before I opened up, but about three feet away he drops and faces away from me!! With the rocket tube on my back he must've thought my sillhouhette was a tree stump or somethin', heh. What other recourse did I have but crawl the two steps forward and knife the guy??

I now think of knifing Diceman as "prevenge" for the rigors he put our squad through on Karkand later on

Next was Oman, and that was a train wreck. My squad leader said "spawn at the hotel" and I recommended I go engineer to repair armor and he said "no no, spawn as anything EXCEPT engineer. Engineers are useless on this map..." what the heck!

It went downhill from there. I kept seeing the purple "defend here" flag on the map, and the squad was nowhere near it. I would suggest we move to that CP and the squad leader would basically say "yeah, go ahead and move on out, we'll be there in a little bit". oh dear. So whoever was the MEC commander on Oman, my apologies!!

On Karkand I joined the famed 7th, and even though MEC lost, no matter how bad things were going those guys in the 7th just kept laughing and kept it really low key, and as Mishkan said, we went "all knives" towards the end. Also kudos to Diceman for trying something new out. The plan might not always be a success, but in trying something original you'll always learn something you didn't know before. That being said, you do something that silly again and expect to feel the cold steel of my blade in the small of your back (again!)

Re: Karkand 10/29, 12:30am

Thanks for the recognition guys. As a member of the recently formed 4th it was only fitting that I volunteer for the job. I was happy to do it and I did keep myself entertained by playing around with C4. I think after awhile Diceman just gave up on repairing the assets after a brief game of wack-a-crate.

(Diceman, you did sneak one salvo in and almost got me, and probably would have if I hadnt decided to drive the HUMvee between the artillery points that one time.)

I only played Oman and Karkland late last (EST) night and it was a good time. A few paddle kills, blew stuff up, took out a jet with AA, a lot of revives (a little too many sorry bane, I didnt see the vodnik standing on the hill overlooking the bridge. I know the last time, I revived you, turned around to help someone else and you were down again and it finally clicked that the vodnik was eyeballing you) and great squadmates. Glad to have played with you guys.

Re: Karkand 10/29, 12:30am

Thanks for all the advice and encouragement, guys. I was feeling pretty crappy after that game. +rep to Coridon for a prevenge that was so very richly deserved, plus a hilarious story and screenshot to boot!

Aculle:
Normally when I squad lead, if I see someone who is a high-priority target, I'll let my whole squad know, and tell them to make sure that the target dies. You're my new Ace of Spades; Welcome to the top.

Seriously though, at first I tried waiting you out so that you'd get bored and move along. You stayed. Then I tried to drop a crate on you. You dodged( ), and then recharged from it. Then I tried to sneak a crate in to repair some arty when you weren't looking. You looked. Then I tried to tire you out by dropping crates on the most remote assets I had. You kept up. Then, just as I saw that I was beginning to get ahead and it looked like you were pretty tired, you jumped in the humvee and drove from arty to arty.

That smiley sequence above? That's what you did to me! Oooo....just you wait!

Everyone else:
You haven't seen the last of me as CO on Karkand. I've got some ideas brewing and I intend to see them through. Everyone who posted in this thread and the rest of the people here make TG the best damn BF2 Server around. Keep your head down and see you on the field.

Oh man, don't sweat it. Especially after Oman. You'll have good games and bad games, just remember the good ones I've CO'd maybe just under 10 rounds. I think I've probably won just over 50% of those, some by huge margins. But I have also lost some of those by HUGE margins. In fact, I CO'd a game as USMC on Oman where our side lost by like 400 tickets. I couldn't get my squads to do anything that I asked them to, it was horrible. I resorted to dropping arty on lone snipers just to amuse myself Give it a try sometime, it's pretty entertaining

Well, thanks for mentioning me, but I didn't do much on that map. I remember getting yelled at a lot because I kept wanting to cross the river And I think I got in everyones way with my driving, but other than that I sucked on that map, I'm not always that BAD though so try me again!

It's funnier dropping supply crates on snipers.
