Sorry for screwing up as a USMC CO on Sharqi. Early on the MEC took the TV station blinded me and took the artillery away. We never got it back and not for a lack of trying. I just tried to prevent several squads from going for the same objective.
Then the SL of squad 3 had an idea that seemed appealing: everyone attack the TV station. I had squad 5 defend the alley way (just 3 guys) and it was taken from them - someone yelled at me that I should keep the city entrance but why? the Alley Way was much closer to the TV station. Well it was taken we could not take it back AND we never managed to get the TV station. Total defeat. I guess there were a lot of enemies attacking the Alleyway. Remember I was blind and could only see our own forces making their way up to the TV and dissappearing. I have read discussions here that it is not important to hold the TV station for the US, and I think that is wrong. If there is no CO that's probably right, but otherwise a CO is useless. In fact making the TV station UCB sounds good, but then the story says that the US is trying to hold on to it's 'communications prize'.

Re: 10/30 pm Sharqi
If the teams are relatively evenly matched up skill-wise (how well they can shoot each other), it hurts alot to lose the TV station. If the teams are not evenly matched up skill-wise (USMC advantage) it doesn't hurt as much to lose it. The other night when I was commanding we took the TV station and only managed to pull ahead at the end by settling down in some good positions. When I pitted one of my squads versus one of theirs they contiuosly got slaughtered.

Its good to have the TV station and defend it at the start, but once you lose it you have a VERY slim chance to get it back. Attacking it will lose tickets, and the only way to actually get it is to send almost everyone, which will then leave all your flags in the city wide open to attack and youll be wiped off the map.
When you do lose the TV station as the US, you should have the advantage of having more men in the city itself because the MEC are wasting 1-2 squads defending the TV station. Its rough, especcialy with that chopper, but its much better than having suicidal run after suicidal run to try to get the ingettable tv station back. Just tell all the squads that they need to fire EVERYTHING, even small arms fire, at the chopper. When an entire team is firing at the thing it becomes much less effective. |

Props to my sqaud on that match. I think we were the only big sqaud taking flags for most the game outside of the TV station. It was crrrrazy. Boy was that cleanup at the end fun. =POh..and the CO is NEVER useless without his assets. Commanders COMMAND. Organize and provide a tactical plan. The Scan and UAV help and so does the Artty...but if all you do is make sure your sqauds are going in different directions..then it's all good. |

Yes Deveran, your squad is not one you want to have as an enemy. I don't know what that final attack looked like on the ground but it must have been impressive. All squads running into the TV station and from there straight to heaven.
Ok - the CO is not useless (and I wasn't without the assets), but it was the blind men and the elephants without UAV and scan. Everybody saw something different.
