Question Where is Everyone!?

I feel like everyone else was invited to a party, and I was left out! Everytime I check the server status, it's either empty or near empty! And everytime I decide to jump on, it seems that everyone is just leaving...

Whats up!?

Re: Where is Everyone!?

The waning popularity of a game is in effect.

HOpefully a very good mod or perhaps the new SF version due in NOV will refresh things.

I have the same issue being on the west coast. I have a hard enough time trying to get on at 7 pm PST, and yet before I know it, the server is dead by 9 pm PST. It used to be full until at least 11 pm PST, but, oh well...Maybe we need to recruit more west coast players, or at the minimum, encourage them to stay on.

Re: Where is Everyone!?

And for those of us in Europe the servers don't really start hotting up until about midnight (7pm eastern), so by the time the mid / west-coasters get on we've pretty much all gone to bed.

Personally I've not found the servers to be any less empty than normal. For me the game hasn't gotten at all boring or old because of the huge numbers of different people I get the pleasure to squad up with.

Re: Where is Everyone!?

I have noticed that the servers have been a little less full lately but i don't think it's really that bad. The server does start to die around 11PM eastern or so but thats norman in my experience. I think some new maps would do the trick, but EA and Dice, in their infinite wisdom, decided not to put an auto-map downloader into BF2. Maybe if the SF expansion is good and TG supports it the server fill up more.

Re: Where is Everyone!?

Yea, I've noticed a lot less people being kicked to make room for SM's (or kicked at 62/64 when joining) when compared to right after the reserved slot system was put in place. When it was first put in place I could barely see the killed lines at times because the kicks were coming so quickly. I don't think it's because people are learning not to try to connect.. the teams will often be at 28-28 or so.

I know I've been playing less BF2 the past 2 weeks because I've gotten back in to America's Army. I'll play a round or two of BF2 then hop on over to AA. I'm getting a little tired of the same maps over and over so I've found something new to keep me entertained. The expansion and/or mods will probably change things for me

Re: Where is Everyone!?

I've been playing less BF2 due to my ISP's stinginess with download limits. They've temporarily reduced my speed to 56k, but tomorrow it goes back up to cable speeds.

Interestingly, BF2 is unplayable with 56k speeds, but I can run AIM, MSN messenger, TS and America's Army all at the same time fine without any lag problems.

You can thank Dice for that. Score one for shoddy programming!

Re: Where is Everyone!?

Also consider all the big new games that just got released. Call of Duty 2, Civ IV, Quake 4 and FEAR...I'm sure they are having some impact. I do wish the server stayed active longer tho. I'm more of a night owl so I could go all night.

Good point. And, on that point, are any of those games any good? Anyone know?

Re: Where is Everyone!?

I haven't been playing much recently due to work and classes. Also the crappy performance of BF2 on my system makes it extremely frustrating to play at times. Compound that with getting bombed/heliwhored every 30 secs.

FEAR is excellent. I'm splitting my time between that, America's Army, and CS:S.
