Nov 2-Mastuur-Wake Island-9:30-10:45

I gave my first real effort to squad leading on the two maps listed above.

I came in about 1/2 way through Mashtuur and as soon as I spawned I somehow was promoted to SL. In the past I would've left the squad and rejoined under a different SL but I've been giving a lot of thought to the SL position in the last couple of weeks so I stuck with it.

Props to the squad members who served under me. They did a good job and followed all of my orders to the letter. I like Marstein's idea of writing SM's names down because this morning I can't recall who served under me.

I do remember Dark Viper as the commander on Mastuur. Nice job issuing clear concise orders...made my job a lot easier. On Mashtuur I thought I did a good job taking care of business, asking sm's to form defensive perimeter, lay medic bags, call out contact...etc etc..Our team won the map by 150 points or so.. It was a real treat to have that as a baptism of fire as a newbie SL.

Wake Island was a totally different story...I played under the Chinese team and we had no commander for the first half of the map. It felt like I my orders were ineffectual for the squad. We got intense pressure on the airfield from both directions and it felt like we were just spiraling out of control. Seemed like I spent most of the map just trying to stay alive. Eventually we did get a commander about half way through...he did as best as he could but he was inexperienced and didn't really manage the battlefield effectively... I do give him credit for giving it a go though...With arty support and increased coordination we managed to take the airfield back after losing it, and get bleed...but we just didn't have enough time and the US won the day.

Anyhow...I remember Clawhammer and Nex being on my squad for one or both of these maps...I'm sorry I didn't write the other names down but I will next time...

I found myself staying back from the action quite a bit in order to give a good spawn point to my squad...especially while we were on the attack.

If anyof my squad members can help me understand what I can do better, and what I did well I'd be grateful. It seems as a foot soldier I'm somewhat run of the mill so I think I'm ready to step up and give SL a concentrated effort. Any help you can give me would be great...(yes I've been reading the excellent guides that B and others have posted) edit (added this text): To continue in that vein over the next several BF2 sessions I'll likely be creating a "New SL" squad. Id be most grateful if any of the more experienced SL's would join up to give critical feedback and support.
