Hardcore realism server settings

I ran into a server that had the word "realism" in the name and thought I'd check it out. There were 2 small settings on the server that made it very very realistic.

1) Deathmessages were off. If you think you killed an opfor there's only one way to check and that is to kick the corpse and see if anything is moving. Also, you don't know if teammates are dying. I did verify that F1 still shows who is alive and dead though so I'm not sure if there is a work-around for that.
2) Ammo count was off. How many rounds did you shoot off? Take a guess how many are left or get a fresh clip.

I don't know if you guys want to do this on a part-time or full-time, private or public, basis but it certainly adds a cool dimension to the game.

Re: Hardcore realism server settings

I think that would be challenging. I'm game, I vote part time.

Cripes, let me try to not suck a little bit more before you go and make it harder.

This is already one of the most realistic (if not the most) games out there already. More is not always better.

Re: Hardcore realism server settings

I like the idea of turning off the death messages. Maybe when we have the server passworded. We'd probably scare off too many pubbies if we ran without death messages all the time.

I don't really notice the ammo count and I'm willing to keep it or let it go.

Re: Hardcore realism server settings

Yeah it might be too much for pubbies to handle but lets give the realism thing a go on passworded games to see if you guys like it.

Another cool thing is, you don't know who you killed on the other team. It could have been their best player or a nub! And you may not even know a teammate got broken off somewhere. "Sloppy, come in Sloppy. Are you there? Oh crap we lost him, what are we gonna do now?!?"

Re: Hardcore realism server settings

We tried it the other night for just one round and it was a lot harder. You couldn't tell if you killed the guy or if he was just injured. You had to confirm you kill. I think we should try it sometime once everyone gets use to the game.

Re: Hardcore realism server settings

Is it possible to force the HUD-settings from the server? That way you could play it with no ammo/crosshair/health at all.

Re: Hardcore realism server settings

You can change this stuff from the Command Post on the server:

- HUD ammo count
- HUD weapon status
- HUD weapon selection
- HUD grenade count
- HUD health status
- HUD combat effectiveness meter
- HUD timer
- HUD medic symbol
- HUD compass
- HUD optics
- Death messages

Re: Hardcore realism server settings

hell, people are still complaining they can't get to level 15, lol... and you want MORE realism?!

I'd say, at least for now the server remains as is... plus, won't that effect if it could be "official" or not?

Just my opinion, not a decision.

Is there a "possum" button of which I was not aware? In AA, doesn't a dead guy look a lot different than a guy lying down?

No possum button. Yes he does look different but if you get into a room to room firefight and back out throw some gernades who knows what happened to the guy in the other room. He could be laying dead in their or he could be flanking you. It does make it more realistic but I don't think we should try it yet.

Re: Hardcore realism server settings

I play extensively on realism servers, and have since I started playing, they're fun in my opinion. Are they harder? Oh yeah. That's why I like them. I like using tactics to beat someone who otherwise is near my level or better than me.

If you play on realism servers alot, you'll be much better for it, though of course the learning curve is exponentially higher.

But, they do scare off a bunch of pubs.
