F18's on carriers

I know we have the JSF, but wouldnt it be nice to have the F-18 on the carriers once in a while.

Re: F18's on carriers

Might be fine - but they don't put F18's on those amphib carriers.

The ship in BF2 cannot launch F-18's, it can only handle VTOL jets like the harrier and the JSF, and helicopters, that "carrier" is really small compared to the REAL carriers.

Screw the JSF, I want an SU-37. That plane has real thrust vectoring.

Edit: Well, looks like this game already has the SU-37; it's the MEC bomber! Too bad thrust vectoring isn't modelled on that puppy. There are some videos of the SU-37 performing acrobatic maneuvers at a 1997 air show somewhere. They are astounding.

I got this picture, and there's a video of it right here

The MEC bomber is the Su-34, not the Su-37. The 37 is a pointless aircraft anyway, the primary limitation on manoeverability in modern airframes is the pilot, not the plane - the JSF will be able to perform manoevers that would kill the pilot. Hence the interest in stealth fighters (F-22) and unmanned aerial vehicles. The Su-37 is one giant radar reflector.

Wikipedia had the BF2 MEC bomber listed as the SU-37, and it is capable of carrying two crewmembers, so it seems someone over there got confused.

And almost every modern jet is capable of "perform[ing] maneuvers that would kill the pilot" - but no other plane that I'm aware of can perform the maneuvers that the SU-37 can. Of course, we should use the past tense when speaking of the 37, as it's my understanding that all of them have been refitted in a different prototype configuration.

Re: F18's on carriers

im my personal opinion the F14 is the best fighter/bomber in active duty right now....i know this has nothing to do with the thread i just like to talk!

The JSFwill have a flight control system installed (much like the FLICS of the F-16) to prevent it exceeding 9Gs. An unconcious pilot in a jet's not gonna do much good.

No, I said they don't put em on "amphib" carriers.
I spent 2 tours of duty on an "attack carrier" in the Navy. Those are the 'big' ones. THEY have F-18s, of course, and just before I left, Super Hornets (the E/F models), which had a crew of 2.
