Pirate's attack cruise ship

Kind of interesting. Does anyone know if they have armed guards on any cruise ships? I have never seen one but I am sure they would be hiding in the crew quarters if they are any.

They actually used something called a "Sonic Gun", it blasts them with extremely loud sounds:

Unbelievable that pirates have become so powerful that they can attack cruise ships with rockets! That would be a worthy attack target (vs Iraq).
Esp off SE asia there are tons of pirates that attack sailors and cargo ships. That this is possible in the 21st century is beyond me. And I think this would be a war that can be won. Controlling ships is not that hard with the modern technologies in the navy.

The thing I cant believe is that a cruise ship outran a speed boat. Must of been a slow speed boat or people just thought it was a speed boat.

In the article in the sjmercury I think it implied the pirates gave up when they ran out of fuel (not enough to return).
ALso the cruise ship tried to ram or rammed the pirates.
The norwegian captain was apparently very cool.

Like Eggplant said, they used a "sonic weapon", or technically, a Long Range Acoustic Device, or LRAD. From the Drudge Report, I found an article detailing a little bit more about the cruise ship's security personnel use of the LRAD here: http://www.breitbart.com/news/2005/11/07/D8DNUV2G3.html .
