Mash 9pm'ish 11/7

I guess after last night I really had the bug to jumo into 'higher seats' - Well tonight I jumped into the CO chair when it went unclaimed for a few minutes.

Thanks for being patient with me up front, it took me a bit to get settled in. Bhack, Bodark, Born_Brittle - you guys - definately were a kick to watch work.

I'll keep it short.. or try to anyway. Tempus - it looked like you were definately using a 'mass attack and flank run' maneuver. It was definately the prompt response of the squads to my orders that turned around our deficit. I got a lot of positive, useable feedback early on that helped me recognize what you guys needed and what I could do.

Two things turned it against us.. Some squads were getting distracted and moving on their own - I was looking at the bald-spots on your heads - The distance to the targets they were going for were much less significant than what they turned thier backs on. In a few cases a had 1 squad depending on another to back them up to attack one of 'Tempus' masses' and break them up - but they wandered off and didn't show. We were at our best when the opposition was scattered about.

The other thing that got me was another example of a distracted player making a move.. this even makes a good reference to the 'Don't shoot if you don't have to' thread. I asked that a specific CP not be capped - I spent most of the game a stones throw from the opp's CP and was pleasantly comfortable and unmolested. Until, someone saw that CP sitting there and thought they'd cap it - after that - it never worked again.

I apologize again if I got 'insistant' over the VoIP with squads that I thought were wandering - but at that point I really didn't have anything else to go on except your little circles on a map and the direction arrow - I didn't have any further intel to fill in any of the gaps. Keep giving me a chance and I'll get better - I promise!

OK.. That being said and done - Ya know what!? That was some fantastic game play tonight and a total credit to the veteran squad leaders to recover us from a deficit and hold the lead for a while with a rookie CO.

OK - Your turn.. beat me up.. I can take it.. did I do at least OK?

+ P8 +

P.S. On top of it all - I wasn't even going to *play* tonight.. ahh well - Ya never know.

Re: Mash 9pm'ish 11/7

You did good.

I know my squad did get "distracted" at times, and I apologize. When we did, I tried to inform you of what we were doing. Sometimes I just could not fulfill an order for whatever reason. Mostly because there were times you wanted me to attack a flag on the opposite side of the map when the one we were at was under heavy attack.

I know its tough as CO to really know whats going on on the ground, which is why I kept opening voip channels to you.

Anyway, I gotta give props to my squad members tonight. I played through a few rounds and everyone was doing great. Speak up and let me know what I need to work on.

You were doing fine.

However, I feel that if my squad had attacked with squad 1(instead of defending mosque zzz) we could have taken it. Try to think about where the squads are. For instance, you sent my squad half way across the map, when we were already so close.

Re: Mash 9pm'ish 11/7

yea i agree with fudd.

I did notice, more than most commanders, you were giving me attack orders at flags that often seemed to be, on the other side of the map.

I used to do this too, when i first started commanding, because you play the commander role like your playing starcraft. You see the enemy massing to attack a flag and want to quickly get a bunch of your troops there to defend it. The problem is that it's difficult to move 6 guys across a map, quickly. We'll often come under attack in transit and the whole move operation becomes a failure.

You really have to consider transit times and perceive squads as slow moving entities, for the most part.

There was a time, when I snagged a transport helo and my squad flew around the map capping 3 flags in 4 minutes. Usually the best we can do is a humvee though. When you see the enemy sending 2 squads at a flag, consider telling the defending squad to get out of there and let them have it. It's not worth sending far away squads on long marches to defend a flag when there are other, completely undefended flags on the map that can be insta-capped.

Re: Mash 9pm'ish 11/7

I am with you there. I was conscious of that spread and tried to avoid it. I think in almost every case (it's getting a little fuzzy now - with time), if I had you hauling across the map, there was the back-up of another team involved and it seemed the best option. I'm pretty certain that bhack and 'fudd (you two) were pretty good at pointing out a better option - or a waypoint that needed attention - but that's experience for ya.

If I recall accurately still - the long runs got more frequent later in the match.. maybe that was Targus' tactics influencing my command?

I'll work with that advice - it really goes with what I had in the back of my head, but I hadn't thought of withdrawing a squad out of the path of a dual onslaught of squads. I let them have a few CP's - mainly - because it looked like we were gaining so much ground snagging tickets by deaths than by controlling a large number of CP's.

Yea, at one point we were down to one flag. It wasn't bleed that won that map, we just had the killers on our team. I think out of all the objectives I gave my squad we only failed once.

Everytime we went into a flag we obliterated the resistance and capped it, it was very impressive.

Please note: If I was using voice comm(had people around = no voice comm[makes me feel weird talking but not to the ppl around me]), I would have given another suggestion. But I'm fairly sure that I typed stuff to you, don't know if you saw it.

No.. I didn't see anything.. I think the typed messages are to hard to get my attention on the command screen. I can see where being a SL w/o VoIP, could make life a little more different if you are trying to convey something quickly to the CO.
