Realism Server AAR

Last night Turbo, SloppyJoe and I hopped onto a realism server on Sloppy's recommendation. Basically it's just like a normal server except the ammo count and death messages are turned off.

The map was Bridge and the 3 of us managed to get on the assault side while the 2 realism clan members and a pubbie got onto defense. We played 2 7 round sets on Bridge and let me tell you, it was a load of fun. Not knowing if you killed a target meant you had to use alot of suppression fire on suspected positions because you weren't sure if the target was up or down. Now I don't know about everyone, but for me on a normal server I rarely have to reload the SAW because once I know a target is down there's no reason for me to keep firing. However because of the no death messages, I was usually reloading twice a round due to the increased use of supression fire.

I'd like to see something like this implemented during a password game at least once so TGers can get a feel for what it's like. I don't think it's any harder than the normal game and even our newest part time AA players shouldn't have a problem. By turning off death messages you don't increase or decrease how often a player is killed or how often they TK. Basically not having death messages doesn't make the game harder but it does mean you have to communicate more with your team to confirm kills, coordinate supression fire, or confirm that your teammate is still alive.

Re: Realism Server AAR

I was going to see if anyone wanted to try out the realism settings for the game Friday. You are absolutely right, the game is not harder it just takes a lot more communication between a team to succeed. I am going to be contacting the clan that runs the server we played on and they will probably be our first scrim opponent if everything works out right. I do think the realism settings should be looked at for the TG server, at least for our pass worded nights. I think it just makes the game better, not harder at all. It just makes you think more.

Get me more people on TeamSpeak, and I'll condone this for the TG server. Until then... bleh.

I'm trying. We have 20+ people who vote in the polls but I have never seen anywhere close to that many in game.

I think it should work on a password night, I mean how many people do we have on a password night that get on the AA server without being on TS?

I'll give it a try, but I don't think I'll like it. Especially since death gurgles wouldn't be allowed.

Re: Realism Server AAR

The only noticeable difference is you don't get the death messages. You just have to confirm the kill, not much difference other then that. An admin can turn the messages off and on while the game is being played so it wouldn't be hard to try for one round then turn it back on.

Without death messages, how would we know that Trooper got sent to jail again?

You still get attacking teammate warnings.

Re: Realism Server AAR

OK, we will try it for one round to see what you guys think then change it right back. We can then discuss it on the forum. I do think most of you would enjoy it but we don't want to push any newcomers away because of it, we need a larger player base as it is.

Re: Realism Server AAR

OK... lets go all out... no HUD what so ever, lol...

that way you have to know how much ammo you have, how many grenades you have, if you have flash bangs or smoke... you have to know the map and the objectives, if you need a medic, you have to call your location and wait for a medic... etc ect...

just kidding, but would be fun to try one night...see how many people try and shoot on empty or with a jam, lol.
