Sharqi 9-Nov 5pmEDTish

I was a bit tired last night, and didn't really fancy squad leading, but was put into the role after Ob1one kept having connection problems. Determined to make the best of it I decided to really try and have a good game leading, especially as we had a few new faces.

Deveran was in my squad, and having heard all the praise the 1337th get for their blitzkreig attack was determined to attampt it myself. Setting up for a standard attack run on the city entrance we grabbed the tank and a voddy and proceeded in. The first attack was pushed back, but a second attack, where I led the guys sweeping to the north of the flag wiped them out.

The alleyway had also turned, so I told my squad to move along quickly, taking a position just to the north of the central flag. As we moved up that was also turning in our favour. As the alleyway went neutral I pushed the squad on. We swept into the flag, witht he guys quickly surrounding it and capping it. Dev came back to pick me up as I was taking a more cautious approach on the flag. I was now in two minds, go for the construction site or move right on the TV station.

I plumped to go for a holding position, and told the squad to move to the north of the construction site, not attacking it but supporting another squad that was moving in. The enemy seeing the threat pushed the tank up to help the construction site. Seeing this as a double opportunity (weakened tv station and not being killed) I redirected the squad upon the TV station.

The squad worked great. We made pur way halfway across the ground complex when we were fired upon by a heavy gun to the south. A few of us managed to take it down, but by this time the tankhad pulled back. I ordered my squad to scatter to cover, and made my way towards the steps up, surviving due to the confusion the tank was facing (so many bodies to pik out priority targets). I redirected a guy to AT, and Dev put himself on the line to distract the tank, which allowed us to take the tank out as I slipped around the back.

Now at the bottom of the TV station we moticed it was their only flag left. The squad repeatedly assualted up the steps, using grendaes into the room to flush them out, whilst I covered the back entrance to protect them. After a few minutes we managed to take the flag, and with just a couple to clear up the MEC won the round by 746-0.

"So Dev," I said "is that how the 1337th would have done it?"
"Yeah..." he replies, "only quicker".

There's no pleasing some people.

Re: Sharqi 9-Nov 5pmEDTish

i just posted about this in another thread (about wednesday euro-night), but i'll sum up the Sharqui experience for me.

i was originally OpFor but was auto-balanced to US on Dalian, and we got smoked smoked smoked (our CO put C4 on all the helos as they tried to take off from the carrier at the beginning and blew them up as they took off). on Sharqi i decided that i could *surely* do a better job commanding than that guy (ha!), so i spawned at the TV station and laid down in the stairwell. here was my lineup:

3 total squads.

1 six man squad with malum as SL, a solid bunch there
1 six man squad...unknown SL...flying the attack helo...the other 4 people
in his squad were scattered about
1 single man squad...this was the guy in the tank

i ordered squad 2 (with the helo) to defend the TV station...he instead headed south towards the southernmost MEC UCB and i was afraid he was going to camp it, but i think i actually got him to eventually help malums squad out at the construction site. very soon i just threw up the UAV to show they were all over the TV station, then inside the TV station, so i exited out of the commanders screen and ran down the stairs to get shot in the face.

ugh!!

Coridon - you were doing some great work with those grenades! That really sucks about the squads not helping you out tho. Remember if SLs are disobeying orders without any reason then they should not be SLs at TG. If you're on TS let an admin know and we'll help out

Meh, I wish I could have stayed on longer but I kept getting disconnected during Zatar. It was so annoying because just when I felt like we were going to take the flag the dreaded 'Connection Problems' message appeared and tanks and apcs would fly across my screen doing backflips....

Ha! That was a fun map. I remember easily taking alley way and then you ordering us to move around the tank and take TV station. We got around it and it was tough advancing on the TV station because of a few infrantry men. The tank came back and I remember I was stuck at the stairs going back and forth and watching the tank go up and down the ramp trying to kill me. I think that's probably because he thought I was the SL. =P

All of a sudden every flag BUT the TV station is MEC and Wulf is just behind it. We make a sprint for the newly spawned tank and I think I let Wulf have it. We were having troubles rushing up the stairwell so I rushed in and got about 2 and ALMOST a knife kill before getting my face blown off. Coridon was throwing down grenades but it was too late. GG to everyone and good SLing Wulf. =P
