Wake Island, Sunday Night...

Just wanted to give quick props to the US on Wake tonight. Started out a little rough as the US couldn't get a toe hold on the Island. After 4 quick deaths, I noticed the CO position was unfilled, so I hopped in.

We pushed strongest on the north side capturing the NW flag first. Squads 3, 5, and 2 quickly formed on that flag with 3 defending, 2 attacking and I noticed that the Chineese was strongest at the fronts, but weak at the airfield. Squad 5 was tasked with the airfield. Their first push was stopped, but they then took a chopper in and capped that flag quickly.

After the Airfield fell into our possession, squads 3 (James) and 5 (didn't catch SL) did a great job in holding that flag. Squad 2 (Otthawk) did a bangup job with the help of Squad 6 (Lunisicx) helped capture the Beach Base. This followed with a switching of flags before we pushed strongly for the Beach and South flags. None of this could have been possible without our Chopper squad (1), or Jets Squad (7). Squad 1 thinned out most attacks before they hit, and Squad 7 did a great job of hitting even individual swimmers as they tried to cross the bay to Arty Island.

The South Base fell at about the same time as the NE flag became property of Squad 2. From there, it was a matter of cleaning up the NW flag and any of the stragglers.

Great job guys!

That was an awesome round for me. I ran in a 2 man fireteam w/ Robocop in James squad and we were tearing it up as an engy-sniper combo believe it or not. There were a couple times the two of us took down 6 man squads rushing the Airfield from N and S. Robo if you read this you're the man. Him at short range covering my back for chargers and me from a distance is actually a deadly combo.

Re: Wake Island, Sunday Night...

Oh, and this map was rough for the USMC in the beginning. My squad made several failed attempts with the blackhawk to land on the enemy flags, but the jets and AA installations creamed us. I decided we had to try again, so we sent our blackhawk on the way to the North Base. We got shot down short of the North Village, so we all bailed out and headed for the flag. We managed to grab it.

The enemy responded by sending their entire army to the North Base to cut us off. I knew we'd never be able to take that point, but I felt we might be able to open up new fronts if we kept their entire team occupied in the north. I told my guys to switch to an all Sniper and Medic squad, like the river standoff on Karkand. Slowly, we started to reduce our team's ticket deficit.

While we were still a-snipin', news came that the airfield was taken by our side. I told my squad to respawn there if they died, and gradually they all did. The enemy continued to contest the airfield. Our tank spawned at the North Village, so I took it and rolled right through the North Base and headed to our airfield, discharging smoke so the enemies still present at the North Base couldn't finish me off with their AT rockets. I was the last guy at the North Village, so I knew the enemy would gain that point and I wanted to deprive them of the North Village tank.

I actually ended up depriving them of that tank for the rest of the round (about 40 more minutes). I had an engineer repair the tank and I sat in it in a sheltered position in the airfield, coming out of cover only when Dark Viper tried to steal our airfield jet. One tank shell later, air supremacy was ours.

Our team held the airfield for the entire round. After enough time, we broke even in tickets and started to build up a lead.

My squad consisted of JusB, nex911, Robocop, FreekyE, visuvius, Gunrack and Evil Lemon from time to time. Poor Gunrack got teamswitched for the very end, when the PLA only had one spawn left. Since there was a shortage of jet pilots on our side, nex911 took the airfield jet to ensure it wouldn't get stolen. The rest of my squad made use of the tank assets and pretty much attacked whenever the signs looked good, and defended when the enemy pushed back on us.

I knew we had the enemy crippled when our side managed to clean out the North Village and North Base. They were all forced onto the south and got attacked there. Before they were cleaned out of the south, they did manage to regain the North Village--sans tank. They were stuck there to be obliterated for the last 150 tickets or so.

Note that Bodofooko on PLA got over 150 kills!

Re: Wake Island, Sunday Night...

Every memorable round for one person is a round another person wants to forget. This map was horrid for OpFor. We had a commander who wasn't talking or giving orders for the first half of the map. Then after getting rid of him, we got the intentional teamkiller as our commander for the second half.

We eventually had a squad formed called "Islanders" where people were making a noble attempt to steal a boat, but the USMC air support was too much.

Re: Wake Island, Sunday Night...

Yeah, once that airfield changed its was pretty much easy sailing. With no planes or helos to worry about Bhack and I just circle strafed and fired. It was a little obscene there at the end when the pla was down to 1 flag. I was actually on the USMC chopper squad the whole time. But when I tried to take a screen shot my comp crashed, so then I was auto assigned to PLA when i rejoined. Props to Bhack on some rad flying, and I appologize to the PLA for the last few minutes of the round, it didn't look like any fun at all on the ground from the view in the sky. Anyway, gg.

Re: Wake Island, Sunday Night...

That was brutal, getting switched like that with only 5 min. to go. Especially playing with a great SL (James315), and great squadmates, and our team winning. Not to say the other side didn't have that, and not that I was contributing a whole lot, but man, it felt like I was a part of a well-oiled squad going there. I still think the autobalance had it in for me tonight. Oh, well, fun while it lasted.

wait...i know who the SL was...it was.... *cough* ME!!

yeah, we had a couple of rough goes trying to land in the YIBs...i think we made a total of three failed attempts before i saw the BH was free on the deck of the carrier. i took it to altitude as squad members slowly evaporated on the southwestern beach and respawned in the helo. i told them how to perform a halo jump and they seemed to perform magnificently. i orbited the chinese airfield and said "anybody dies, spawn on me!" but apparently none were killed and before i knew it the flag was ours. i ditched the BH, ordered everyone into the mounted MGs and the rest is history. xRansackx did a bang up job of keeping their arty down, though it's bugged on that map and kept giving us "team damage" everytime we blew it up. plus it auto-repairs without a crate. what the heck. Hardtale was also in squad five and man i'm sorry for not being able to remember anyone else...Budahack, where you there that round? it ended up being pretty uneventful once we secured the airstrip...luckily somebody in the squad brought the hooch and a deck of cards...

oh, and who was making bizarre howling noises on Teamspeak in the middle of that round?? fess up!!

Re: Wake Island, Sunday Night...

Yah, I joined on Chinese just before we lost the south island, after the airield fell.

The was the most ugly scene I've witnessed in quite some time. There were a few of us who were trying to put up resistance, but most seemed to have degenerated to rabble. Our "commander" had a -24 teamwork...

Re: Wake Island, Sunday Night...

That map was painful and you know it's bad when the Jet Squad takes best squad after loosing their jets half way through the map

I'm happy though, I just finished a 16 player Sharqi where we beat a 50+ point deficit in the last minutes of the game by pushing the other team off the map with a mere 17ish tickets to spare.

Even though it was a small round (~20 players), I'll post an AAR on that last round on Sharqi, Arf. I'm still in shock that we won that round.

EDIT: Sorry Lucky, forgot to mention what a great job you did as CO for USMC on Wake. Too bad I didn't get to finish on USMC, but nonetheless, nice job.
