Tuesday evening Sharqi

So, I commanded my third ever map on a TG server tonight. First time with a full server. It was coming off the MEC being destroyed on Karkand, but let's not talk about that. Let's talk about Sharqi!

As I said, just my first time commanding a full server so I was a little overwhelmed. I didn't really have a plan in mind at first, so I was just kinda pointing and clicking. Kept forgetting about scanning or arty or whatever. Sent a squad or two at the TV station, but I figured out that it was murder to let em keep going.

The turning point for me was when the chopper squad complained about having a hard time getting past the Hotel and wanting us to take it. So I diverted the squads off the TV Station and down there. Then it clicked. I wanted to hold the City Entrance, Alleyway, Surveillance Post, and Hotel. I wanted to keep the USMC pinned up at the Construction Site and drop arty on their heads all night long. And that's what we did. We got those flags, losing them a time or two, but getting them right back. And it worked! We overcame a ticket deficit and had a come from behind victory of 38 - 0. Yay!

I couldn't figure out how to get back in to the squad selection screen after I took over as commander, so I'm not real sure who all my squad leaders were, but good job to em! Oh, good job to the squad members too! You all managed to win despite me being the CO I know life got to be pretty boring at times, and I gave some tight deadlines, but we managed to pull through.

Still don't think I like commanding, but at least I have some confidence in knowing I have pulled off a win in the past

Re: Tuesday evening Sharqi

I was in ABRAs squad on the USMC side and it was a slaughterfest. ABRA brought some calm into the storm with his cool clear commanding, but it felt like being constantly killed by artillery, helos and enemy fire. That click rang in my ears...

Re: Tuesday evening Sharqi

Proud to be the squad at the hotel that was apparently such a thorn in your side.

Yea, and let it be known that your little "clicks" to take the hotel caused a nightmare for my squad.

I looked to the north and saw enemy streaming down the hills. How many squads did you assign to take that flag? It seemed at least two. It was just us defending.

But we actually held out against the first few attempts... In the endthere was just too many.

But I do have to say, as good as my squad did that round, I was surprised we lost the map. I guarantee you my squad knocked off a lot more tickets than we lost, especially at the beginning when our 50 cals were chewing up boats.

That was actually a well played round by both teams.

Re: Tuesday evening Sharqi

I had an insane score by the end of that one...somewhere in the 200's lol. My squad and perry can attest to that one. I was in chillpills squad which was assigned to defend the alleyway. Let me tell you there wasnt a single moment i wasnt shooting something, chuckin a nade, healing or reviving. I dont think i ever stopped moving. It was utter choas the whole time and i loved it. At the end when killrogg rolled up in a tank things really started to get interesting lol. They tried time and time again to get assault us from the east but we held our ground beautifully.

We lost it a few times but we always got it back. Great work perry and awesome job squad! Cant wait to do it again :-)

Just 1 + my 1 man squad since all the others were full or locked at 3.

I was the one who kept getting to the flag for some reason, guess you were concentrating on the full squad letting me sneak in until the lag got to much so restarted.

Re: Tuesday evening Sharqi

Oh, well it sure seemed like a lot more than that. When we finally lost the flag, it was because the attack chopper wiped us all out right as that squad came in.

Stupid Havoc splash cannon o death.

ALso props to HERO on commanding like 4 maps in a row, and providing some much needed artillery saves.

Yeah we would defend against the big assault and all of the sudden see the flag dropping. Good job doing that.

And I am very happy to hear that the chopper was getting torn to bits by our squad . The pilot/gunner eventually resorted to long range TV missle launching at the jeeps through the fog of war as they could not let themselves get into visual range of us. That and the snipers taking us out of the turrets were a pain in the a*se.

Good game though it was a close one until we lost that flag. It seems to be a key one on that map.

That was payback for the multiple times you shot us down in the chopper. Granted, I was hardly piloting well to begin with, but the humvees were tearing us up.

That Hotel flag is key for the USMC. We had to go completely around it to provide any support to the team due to all of the 50 cals, stinger, and AT's on the roof. Once the Hotel was in OpFor hands, we were easily able to pin down the infantry at the construction site, ultimately turning the tide of the battle in our favor.

Good work Perry. I hope to see you commanding more often.

Yep, once we had our 4 flags, I told the chopper to go weapons free on the construction site, occassionally giving them a waypoint to help out with. I can't remember how many squads I sent down to the hotel, but I know 6 was the main one there, Preston in his one man squad, and I had my squad at the surveillance post doing some long range support.. and of course the chopper. Heh. Overwhelming force was my goal.

I did not realize the alleyway was so busy or I would gave dedicated more of my CO resources to it --- seemed like I was giving a lot of support down to the hotel as far as UAV's went at least. I know I asked the folks at the alleyway how things were going, "Just fine," was the reply I got. Then a few seconds later the flag went neutral, and just as I started to worry, they got it right back.

Heh, probably 50% of my arty strikes were at the construction site. I told the SL's to keep everyone out of that compound . I wouldn't even scan to see how many enemies were there, just placed it someplace in the compound.

I know that this "basic strategy" for Sharqi has been posted on the forums before, so it was kinda cool to see all my time on the forums pay off in the game

Re: Tuesday evening Sharqi

You did a good job, Perry. The fact that you reigned us in and put us on defense is what made us win. All we did was wait until USMC initiated an attack then lay the smack down.

I ran a squad that was put on defense at the Survelliance Post. We stayed very flexible and sallied to the Alleyway or Hotel whenever it got attacked. So yes, everything was "just fine".

Re: Tuesday evening Sharqi

I was on the USMC and was pretty impressed by your COing. Ya had great defenses set up and had just the right flags to put a "bleed" on us. It was beatniks squad (with me in it) that were defending the TV station for the most part of the game. We repelled each attack with relative ease and eventually yall stopped attacking all together. With about 100 tickets left in the game i think our team was attackingtoo many flags at once and the MEC were able to repel them too easily, and we lost soooo many tickets, and fast.

Re: Tuesday evening Sharqi

Yeah I was in BHack's squad It was a good game but man oh man the action was flying at the Hotel. Hard to believe it was only one squad plus 1 attacking us, sure felt like 3 squads!!!

That attack chopper was wearing us out too !!

Good game !

Yea, thanks, trying to get better at commanding so expect to see me there alot more often.

I tried commanding again tonight and it was Sharqi, what a disaster that was, 3 infantry (read:useful) squads, one refused to do anything but defend TV station and 12 guys vs 26 that definetly had more full squads than we did was futile.

Sorry for the rant, I was just aggrivated.

Hold tab, right click, and chose the 'Players' tab.
