Daqing, Karkand Tuesday night ~10pm PT

I was SLing USMC on those two maps and had a great squad made up of Gunrack, Robocop, Strikefear and SloppyJoe as regulars and Soonerfan1966 and LtMeegan as relatively silent (no mic) but very capable TG-virgins.
The action was more like a baptization by fire and they soon lost their virginhood as we were pulling off one cool maneuvor after the other.

Daqing: Mostly holding the old city and then the west side of the map quickly taking one flag after the other. The squad was quick in picking up vehicles and armor and then in taking the flag. I got 9 points in that round!!

Karkand: First we tried to take the suburb via the popular western route and were repelled by a large cluster of MEC forces around the hotel. We charged for our APCs and took them across the landbridge and took the factor like this :snip:. We then went for the cement factory, then held the factory for a while. When we felt secure about the east we rode our SUVs back across the landbridge and took the hotel, suburb, train accident --- the whole Karkand tourist route.
Unfortunately our commander was new and we were (ahem I was) actually not really communicating our blitzkrieg plan very well to him and we lost everything pretty quickly. In the end we did have a comfortable lead and won in a showdown on the east bank of the river defending the cement factory.

THanks to a great squad it was fun working with you.

Re: Daqing, Karkand Tuesday night ~10pm PT

CO'd that second half of that Daqing round after Sphincter Boy stepped down. At that point we were 60 points down and most of the assets were down. Squad 9 did a fantastic job along with the squad leader of 1 to get our assets back up and clear out the bandits. Squad 7 (Gunrack) moved through the Gas Station, to the Cisterns and captured the Old City after the Chineese took it. Marstein (Squad 5) defended the Old City for a long time and I was reluctant to pull them off but we were down flags and needed bleed to catch up. Squad 5 grabbed the Powerstation about the same time I had Squad 2 (pulled off Refinery attack against 4 people) to take the undefended West Oilfields. I didn't see exactly where that armor column appeared after they took the flag, but they did well in that objective. Squad 6 did a good job in supporting attacks at the East Oilfield even though we weren't able to grab it.

We lost by 20-30 tickets by the end, but the thing I feel I can hang my hat on was that we were down and never gave up. At the end we were bleeding them but ran out of time.

If you were one of the SL's, give me some feedback by PM on what I can do better. Thanks!

Lucky Shot

Re: Daqing, Karkand Tuesday night ~10pm PT

I was actually only on your USMC squad on Karkand, marstein, as I was SL for Chinese on Daqing. Had to leave after Daqing because of connection problems, but made it back in time to join your squad. Anyway, great job SLing marstein on Karkand. It's always fun, yet effective, on your squads. You had me play spec ops for awhile there and had me keep the MEC arty down, which was fun, as I don't get to play that kit too often. It seemed to help keep the MEC from catching up to us, ticket-wise.

Also, just want to give some quick props to my squad on Daqing (Bane2, LtMeegan, Phlux, Sphincterboy, treaty, & Lucky Shot, who stepped up to a difficult CO chair mid-round) for a job well done, even though we lost. Lucky Shot, you didn't do anything wrong that I could see. You were much more helpful than the other CO, as he rarely gave me orders, and never used the mic. We were already behind the 8-ball when you stepped up, so losing by that small amount was in and of itself no small achievement.

Re: Daqing, Karkand Tuesday night ~10pm PT

More charts:

Daqing

I was SLing squad 2...its never the most exciting map for a sniper squad but we changed up kits depending on the situation and performed decent I thought. Vodkatonic and Lead-Headache were my squadmates.

Karland

Still SLing sniper squad 2. Lead-Headache was still with me and Phlux joined since Vod left. Tried to help in the suburb push first but that was too heavily defended. Once the US took a flag on the east I changed tactics and headed toward the river. Then after a UAV went up showing the coast was clear to cross we went over. No resistance. Gradually the flags turned US and we setup defense wherever it felt needed.

This went on for a while....after we almost lost the factory I decided to setup on the roof of the building east of the factory. Eventually things stabilized and I let my two guys move up and snipe wherever they wanted. I stayed back on the roof just in case someone got by so I could be a nice spawn point.

So I'm on this roof almost all alone by the factory...watching the time tick down and admiring the view and suddenly I get shot from my left. I look over and see a full squad on the crane maybe fifty meters away max. Uh oh. I had a supply box next to me but once an AT blew that up I figured I was a goner. I noticed though that they were almost all AT. So I quickly sniped the medic who was prone. Then it turned into a funny sniper vs Eyrx battle. A few did minor splash damage and one or two wizzed by my head. I'm still expecting to die any second but I sniped one or two and then hid behind a structure up there. This allowed me to take cover from the AT fire but snipe the southern half of the crane. I still would have been vulnerable to grenades but hey they were all AT. There were two more contacts down that way and once I saw a guy spawn on Beatnik I knew who I had to kill. After a few shots he went down and the guy next to him shortly after. I think only one remained and hot damn I got him too.

That poor squad tho...I sort of did the same thing a few minutes later. Again I'm still up top...this time Killrogg was up there as well. He spots a guy south on the ground near the crane and I look over the edge and see a full squad. This time beatnik was a sniper(heh) and he tried climbing the crane but got immediately sniped. (Was a claymore at the top this time anyway ) Then between me and killrogg we took out the rest of them from up top. It went very quick. There was even another poor squad that I beat up on near the very end at the same spot but enough talk.

So anyway...that made my night and I don't know how else to tell it without sounding like I'm full of myself. Props to my squadmates for following my orders to a tee during the first half and not getting bored when there wasn't much to say/direct to the standoff's second half.

Mantis I was cursing your name for those couple exchanges. You got a freaking head shot on me while on the ladder the second time. I thought I had you hurting up there and had hoped to scare you off, but yeah we came prepared for the armor downstairs and learned a very valuable lesson that game:

Watch for Mantis if you're attacking with all AT.

Re: Daqing, Karkand Tuesday night ~10pm PT

Daqing was a great round. Our excellent squad (#1, hehe ) were holding a minimum of 2 flags (sometimes 3) at a time on the west side. At one point, we repelled wave after wave of attacks on the the west oilfields -- everyone just needed to rest for a couple of minutes after that.

Props to Lunisicx for having a cohesive gameplan there.

LuckyShot - I think you did very well as CO. You communicate well and don't micromanage. I remember you giving us a plan (powerstation first, then west oil) and we executed it as best as we could.
The only word of advice I would have is to announce yourself (like Bommando) "I am LS your new CO, let me get my bearings... supplies are available, etc" to remind people you are on, they are not alone, etc.
Checking in with the squads periodically to make them feel they are still loved is also nice. And always say "I'm sorry" - no wait, that is for the 'how to be a good husband' thread.

Every CO needs a tagline! The most important thing...ever.

"Hello Gentleman, once second" <- Thats mine, although I have got called out on it by some of our female members.

Props the the "Ambulance" squad on karkland on doin a great job of just killin stuff. We had a collective kill/death ration of of almost 3:1 (largely thanks to duke) which ain't bad for an entire squad. And i just have to say, that support unlock has some pretty radical stopping power...if they buff up the accuracy in the next patch like the rumor says, then people are gonna be in some trouble.

Re: Daqing, Karkand Tuesday night ~10pm PT

I had fun on this map defending the Gast Station and East Oilfield with B and a few others on the Chinese side. We couldn't quite keep the Gas Station blue, but once our team got the bleed we holed up at the East oilfield and didn't let go the entire round. I had fun competing with the other AT on our squad (B? someone..) to see who could shoot down the attack heli with rockets first. I manned the AA gun as well, and succeeded in shooting down one of the enemy's jets....and then one of our own. Oops. Maybe a patch will clear some of that up. Right at the end it seemed like everyone and their mother was coming down on us, but by that time it was too late and the round ended in the heat of battle. Good match.

Karkand was a lesson in pain, given to me by Lead-Headache. Do you know how frustrating it is to be innocently trying to blow up an APC or Tank with your rocket launcher only to be repeatedly taken out by some show off sniper? Well it is. Our squad tried to pick up the pieces after the vicious blitzkrieg, but we couldn't make up the point loss. We did take best squad from retaking all of those flags, but we couldn't get the ones that counted back. Fun Kark round as always.

Memorable moment from Kark: Jumping in front of an AT rocket so that our APC wouldn't get hit. Now THAT's taking one for the team.

I believe it was just my squad attacking East Oilfield at the end, but I had some good players in my squad, and I stayed alive as SL until almost the last few secs of the round, which allowed for several waves of attackers on the flag. I will give you guys credit, tho, you would not give up that flag. I must have circled the perimeter of that flag at least once trying to give my guys different points of attack, with no luck. We even took your gunship at least twice in the process. Much props to your squad on a very good defense of the East Oilfield.
