Thumbs up 12/14 Night SF Server #2 Play

Some interesting games.
The first one was a little disconcerting on for the SAS on Ghost Town as we spawned in someone on the other team was requesting we only use vehicles for transport. So we jumped in some jeeps after getting organized and headed for the south bridge CP. As we were pulling up boom we get wiped out by an APC... </start rant> Needless to say I don't think we should EVER be setting these no vehicle rules in-game, because not everyone sees the text message and it can be pretty frustrating when you get pinned in your UCB if you didn't expect the enemy to be using armor. If we decide vehicles aren't desirable in a game of <20 people lets mod the server to get rid of them </end rant>.

Anyway, after starting behind the 8-ball on this map some of us reorganized into better squads with myself joining JMJ, hellrazor, amosely, tac-d and strag. We suffered through a loss without complaint, but were determined to get organized and not have any arbitrary rules ruin our fun .

Next map was Leviathan. It sure started out pretty rough for the USMC with us losing our initial point and at one point having no flags to spawn. Big thanks to the other squad that managed to get that flag we desperately needed. The turning point for our squad and I believe the game was JMJ's orders to deploy on the roofs above the MEC's eastern CP with the tank spawn. Intelligently, we made relatively few attempts at securing the actual flag, other than occasionally making a grab for the tank. From our vantage point, we were able to harrass and repel a tremendous number of assualts, as well as provide fire covering 1 other flag. I'm not sure how long we hung on up there, but it was a considerable time and with everyone working hard and me working feeverishly on med packs and revives, we surrendered almost zero tickets while inflicting heavy casualties. We did eventually lose the roof, because I fell off fleeing from a grenade and JMJ went down at the same time. After that the ticket count was greatly in our favor due in no small part to the work of the other squad in securing the majority of remaining flags while we kept the MEC busy.

Next match was a bit of a wash as the numbers dwindled on the SF server fairly rapidly. Again after a poor start we came back strong securing ticket control.

Was a great night.. really enjoyed playing with JMJ as usual.. we had a great crew of people good at their kits and of course great at playing tactically. SF is a superb game when played the TG way. The ability to deploy fast, covert and vertically is an awesome thing. Flanking and defending a single spot is a lost art in bf2 because of the Scan/UAV/Arty and is something so fun when you can actually achieve it.

/cheers

I was in RedBane's squad that was trying to get you guys off the roof. We had alot of fun with you all up there. We spent 20 minutes trying everything we could think of to get you guys down. Made for some great moments.

We eventually made our way to the sub pen flags and had some similar battles inside. Everytime we'd get one flag inside the sub pen, the other would fall. Seemed like there was 2 squads on each side, both trying to attack and defend at the same time. Lots of good fighting in there. I even got run over by Slugslinger's jet ski

Shiner, excellent job last night, was nice to keep getting revived death after death Too bad more people didn't show up and play longer.

Faultline, the best part was that we had zero intention of taking that flag. It was just a ploy to get you guys to come after us so we could kill you Just working on saving tickets on our end and turning things in our favor. It was a blast, that's a great place to do battle. You guys should've had more snipers to mess with us

We kinda figured you all wanted to just give us fits. You all did just that too! I can't speak for everyone but I know I had a blast trying to get you all out of there. I remember climbing a hook forever, thinking "This time they're outta here, they don't see me coming!". Sure enough, after my long climb up the rope, JMJ is sitting there watching me patiently. He gave me a few seconds to let me know I could see him and feel helpless. I think I even saw a smile appear somewhere beneath his ski mask. Then he shot me in the face. Ahhh...fun stuff though.

You know, someday I'm actually gonna get on your squad so I don't have to put up with this kind of behavior

SF really lost it's appeal for me...not sure why, but I feel like the maps don't offer much tactical play.

Re: 12/14 Night SF Server #2 Play

From what I did play it was intense. Decided to give myself a well deserved night off from studying and recharge my batteries with some good games of SF. think I played on both teams throughout the night on Leviathon. I kept losing my connection to the server. I think I lost the connection 6 times trying to play, anyone else having problems with the server? because this is the first time its happened to me?

I was in so many different squads I really dont remember who I played with, I seemed to always be fighting over the subpen but I enjoyed what little time I spent playing

I was in that squad too. Nice, good guys. Thanks for not mentioning that I tk'd you twice.
I will need a lot of trainging to be effective on those night maps.

Re: 12/14 Night SF Server #2 Play

Ghost Town was fun.. I was stat padding off Tempus and Twisted as they laid on roofs trying to counter-snipe. Must have had 30+ revives that round, but somehow Faultline got the Revive award -- Duke and I agreed that he was using some of Santa's hacks About the vehicles and arty and stuff - I agree that modded maps are needed if we're going to have the server open to the general public, and even to TG players that aren't on TS. There is no way for a public player to know what modified rules we are playing under.

Leviathin was just tedious without ticket bleed.. Well, there was bleed when the MEC had just 2 flags or the USMC had just 1, which means there was essentially no bleed. I get such poor performance with nightvision on that it's darn near impossible for me to do any good shooting on those night maps. I felt like I was just running around aimlessly.

Mass Destruction (I think that's it, the chemical weapon map) woulda been more fun with more people.. 8v8, or whatever it was, just turned it in to a flag hopping mess which really killed the server.

Yeah, last night was a blast. You did a helluva job with the Medic kit, Shiner. Props to JMJ for being a great SL, and props to everyone else in the squad for jobs well done. It was great playing with ya'll.

That extended roof session was a ton of fun. It was a textbook example of distraction. My apologies to RedBane for shooting you off that ladder so many times. Although, I have to admit, I was laughing pretty hard....

I really disagree with you on this one. I think in many ways SF requires MORE tactical play to be successful.

EDIT: I'm confused about your feelings toward SF Kilrogg. I've seen many posts by you saying how 'bad' SF is, yet I see other posts where you are taking the lead in proposing SF nights. If it doesn't fit your playing style why do you keep playing it?

Re: 12/14 Night SF Server #2 Play

Lack of bleed, night-time, and entire squads just sitting on rooftops lobbing grenades made that last map (Leviathon?) just boring for me.

Thanks JMJ and company - hellrazor, tac-d, shiner, and strag - for a really fun round last night. It's those shining moments (like blasting people off of rooftops) that keep us all coming back for more.

It may sound lame, but it worked. We had one flag when we started doing that, and as long as we stayed up there it distracted the MEC side enough for them to have 1 or 2 squads after us, allowing our side to grab most of the flags. I don't know why they were so uptight about that one flag, maybe because it had the tank? Join up with me next time and I'll make sure you have fun, even at my expense
