Friday night Daqing
What an interesting round that was for me. I had taken over B's squad for the last few minutes of Mashtuur. I thought about flying or sniping or making a specops squad for Daqing, but I decided to try the whole squad leading thing on the ground. We headed out from the USMC UCB to the gas station and held there for a couple minutes until NorCalRoach decided to go CO. He had us head out to the Old City in our little armor column.. We got about 200m up the road and our armor column had been destroyed by jets and choppers. Doh! Look back and see the flag had fallen right behind us. Double Doh!
Hike on over and take the Old City unopposed. Penguin decided he wanted another easy kill on Bonehead74's tank.. Bonehead's desire to shoot down a jet won. Time to leave the Old City to the Power Station. Bonehead got himself a couple choppers in the tank on the way. Amazing. Of course, right after we had left the Old City, it fell. Sigh. How many times have you heard stories about a squad holding those two western flags - the Power Station and the West Oilfield? Heh, this was another one of those rounds. I intentionally had us initially move towards the gas station at the start of the round so I wouldn't end up SLing (I've been SL before, but don't much care for the role) and trying to hold two flags. But the guys were amazing. NorCal gave us the air support that we needed, right when we needed it. Our AT guys picked up the rest.. I'd call in for air support, and before NorCal could respond, the armor was down. We had some great fights between the two flags.. We lost the Power Station at one time and kept getting harassed by tanks and buggies.. I got annoyed. So, one time when the tank got taken out, we made a mad dash for that Power Station and ended up stealing the tank and getting the flag back. Really stressful round for me because I'm not used to SLing, and definitely not used to holding 2 flags at once; I was pretty exhausted at the end of it, but I don't think I could have pulled it off with a less cooperative squad. They stuck to their kits and did a great job at adapting to me running around like a chicken with its head cut off and holding those 2 flags. At the very end of the round, our two flags were the only flags that the USMC had. The OpFor had quite a ticket margain on us at one time, but NorCal performed admirably at bringing us to within 50 tickets there at the end. Good job, Beatnik, Bonehead74, PFunk1, BigBill, and thebleakaffinity! Thanks for the good round!

Re: Friday night Daqing
Me, arf, and penguin were in the chinese jets squad together. Some RIDICULOUS things happened, of course.
First, i was gunner in the bomber and killed strikefears bomber not once, but TWICE with laser guided missiles. After that we all decided that i was god. Then i was flying later on chasing strikefear REALLY close. I bumped the cockpit into the back of his jet, and got a teamkill beacuse that apparently killed penguin. Then later on both of our jets were chasing their bomber. I THOUGHT i heard arf say "Pull up or we'll crash" but apparently he said "dont pull up or else we'll crash". I pulled up, and sure enough we rammed eachother. We also ran into a jeep during tackoff. Oops. Penguin |

Re: Friday night Daqing
That was an interesting round.
The air support you mentioned was Kilrogg in the F-18, and myself flying the F-15. The gunner for the best parts was gunjunkie - who I've worked with before, and hope to again. I actually took a FRAPS video of this - and will share it once compressed and edited. Excellently enough, all the incidents Santa just mentioned were recorded. ![]() Except I only recorded one LGM kill - and it's on a different video.

Daqing Oil Fields
Wanted to throw out a thanks to the 42nd Recon squad on Daqing tonight. It was a loss, but we never gave in. I know I had a far different squad at the start then I did at the end.
We started off at the Refinery along with Squad 4. We tried to make a push for the West Oilfields only to have one of my 3 guys (CPL) inform us that there was 3 enemy armor pieces already there. We redirected to the Powerstation only to die to a bomber. Our squad finished rounding out as the enemy took the Refinery. We began several assaults on the Refinery and don't think we did anything beyond greying it out. We tried assaults from the West, South, East and from the Refinery Roof. We were redirected to the Gas Station which then became US property. The flag changed hands several times as the assaulting teams put up one heck of a fight. The enemy at it's strongest brought 2 tanks and an AA tank into the flag area. After clearing the flag, the 42nd Recon was charged with taking the Oil Cisterns where we completed the map. The initial assault was not a surprise, and they were lying in the weeds waiting for us. We timed our assault for after the Arty, put bodies on the flag and capped it. Throughout the rest of the map, we traded the flag a couple times, but all infantry versus AA, Tanks, Arty and bombing we held our own REALLY well. I wanted to give props to the men who made it happen, CPL3, Shakey, Fuzzy, Bodofooko, Vodkatonic, LuNiSiCx and anyone else who passed through my squad. Even though we lost, I was extremely proud of how this squad performed on defense at that Cisterns flag. Lucky Shot Last edited by Lucky Shot; 12-17-2005 at 02:52 AM. |

Re: Friday night Daqing
Aw man, I just posted an AAR on that round. Any chance I could get it merged into this one?
I did appreciate NorCal's approach to CO'ing, especially as he brought choppers to bear when we needed it (tanks, AA, etc...) Lucky Shot |

Re: Friday night Daqing
Santa's first LG kill scared the heck out of me. I was closing in on the bomber and just as I got set up it exploded and we almost got a nose full of wreckage. It took me a second to figure out exactly what happened. There were a lot of fluke instances on Daqing which happens a lot on that map. It's like the Twilight Zone for jets.
Kilrogg needs to go out to lunch a little more when he's flying, it would make it easier to sneak up on him. Overall, there was good fun in the air. ![]()

Re: Friday night Daqing
The highlight of the round in Perry's squad was Bonehead taking out at least 2 helos and a jet with the tank...all withing about 3 minutes. That guy was freaking Neo in The Matrix with that tank.
Good job SLing Perry. We kept busy the whole time, at the very least being bombed to bits over and over... ![]()

Re: Friday night Daqing
He took out my J10 in that tank. At first i thought i had hit a tree but then i saw that an M1A2 killed me. Weirdest round i've ever had in the air.

Re: Friday night Daqing
I guess I missed the squad chart...
![]() ![]() I got on the server about mid game. Saw a sniper squad labeled '3max' with 2 people...so I joined. However it filled to 6 people pretty quickly so I bailed to not waste assets for the team. After leaving I noticed gunjunkie was alone in his chopper squad so I joined that. Had been at least a month since I've flown but we did decent between the two of us. Nailed an ok amount of armor and wiped out the relentless squad attacking our assets a few times. I'm still a poor shot with the tv missle though.:/ |

Re: Friday night Daqing
-11 ><
Missiles are so useless. I was chasing Arf who was chasing our F-15. I know better than to fire missiles at an enemy chasing a friendly, but I saw him fly in a straight line for a few seconds so decided to take a chance....lock, no flares, fire, still no flares, missile goes WAY past him and just hits the f'ing F-15 and teamkills it. I wish I had a joystick, it's really hard for me to gun down jets because I have to fly with super high sensitivity to be able to turn fast with the mouse and it makes being accurate real hard since the slightest movement of the mouse moves my jet a lot. |

Re: Friday night Daqing
Yah, I joined the jet squad and joined StrikeFear in some anti armor missions. About halfway through the round, a pubbie really wanted to be in the jet, jumping in front of me and making threatening gun gestures
. The helo was empty so I went for that. Mantis, you should fly more. You have good NOE skills.

Re: Friday night Daqing
Yeah I was in Perry's squad and watching Bonehead work his AA Magic on those two choppers and that jet man was that sweet ! unreal !
Perry you did a fine job as SL, no problem at all. I stayed mostly down defending the west oil fields which was busy at first but then was kinda quiet near the end. Good idea defending both flags with our one squad. Good job to all the squad members on that one !

Re: Friday night Daqing
I have a Logitech G5 with the sensitivity switch, but switching it to the lowest setting is both too long (it takes like one second to press the button and that one second is 1/3 damage to an enemy plane) and doesn't really do that much of a difference.
