BF2, TG, and you

With some of the regular players beginning to migrate off of BF2 and into silly things like EVE, I'm wondering how the remaining players feel about the future of our beloved BF2.

I still have a great time playing it, and the recent map tweaks have gone a long way to increasing the playability of certain maps, but I'm starting to think it's time to do something new. We've played all the maps to death! The game now has a bunch of burgeoning mods, even CTF.

I think we can all agree there are some maps that just aren't nearly as fun as others. Why not take out these maps and replace them with some community maps that focus on infantry and CQB?

It's time to freshen up this game, suggestions?

come to the dark side (COD2) -- nah just kidding, or am I?

Back on topic. I think we need to wait for the DC, POE and other mods. That will bring everyone back along with the TG Scrim League (thanks ABRA) and the possibility of some more 32vs32 scrims (once/if? Bom unretires).

Right now you just have a little BF2 burnout from the guys playing at TG since release.

Re: BF2, TG, and you

yeah, ive just burnt myself out on bf2, everyone is just too good and it does become frustrating at times, especially with everything that goes on, it can really get ontop of you (well in videogame terms) CoD 2 on the other hand is straight up no nonsense squad tactics, ive always been an armour man but its nice to get away from the vehicles for awhile,

i guess waiting for the mods would be the biggest change.

Re: BF2, TG, and you

I've basically dropped out of BF2. As I see less and less inhouse team participation, I am even less inclined to join the servers.

I don't enjoy the game, I'm tired of the maps, and I couldn't care less about the "OMFG Attack Choppers" crowd that the server 1 seems to attract lately.

Frankly, the game is like Counterstrike Source: it's not a great game, but a good fit for Tactical Gamer if we play it right. I like what is happening with Tactical Mod, but my guess is that running that 24/7 will result in another dead server.

We have better games to play, like Ghost Recon: No Easy Day, Operation Flashpoint, SWAT4, and America's Army, but most players seem to be chasing the flavor of the month, rather than the indepth tactical experience that we excel at.

Given that, the migration is natural.

Re: BF2, TG, and you

Bf2 is by no means dying here.. It is healthy that some players diversify their gaming as too much of any one game will lead to burn out. Plus we just went though a holiday season where everything slows down.

The EVE defectors will come back after they miss their adrenaline boost.

The game itself is still evolving, and if the map tools ever improve, we can expect to see new maps coming out. The mods are maturing as well, and once the scrim action heats up, squad participation may improve as well.

Not all is doom and gloom.

I'm still good with it.. we are still having some really amazing teamplay rounds these days. Of course - somedays are better than others.

I prefer to think how interesting it is to see the new names rather than spend time wondering who isn't there. I even have to step up and SL more often.. reluctantly of course.. but it usually turns out rewarding - win or loose.

I sure do see a lot of TG-IRR's in there. I think they are taking over BF2! So much so that the name is sort of ironic.

They are snapping up all the decent non-sm players....they are welcome to it, but they don't have reserved slots, so their presence on the server is due to a lack of SM interest.

If all the 42nd, 2nd, 7th, 1337th, and MIP showed up, they would have few slots indeed.

You guys have a critical mass of supporting members?

Re: BF2, TG, and you

I play, just on and off. Like all gamers, I go through my cycles of infatuation and burnout. Right now I split my time between WoW and BF2, and when I get tired of one I play more of the other.

I haven't seen much of a drop-off of players, but I'm sure there's some. That's okay, they can take a break and rest from the game so that they'll come back to it fresh. I think an influx of new maps would rock, but I don't want to buy expansion or booster packs. Hopefully the next patch will add in some changes to improve the game instead of just making it a higher grade of mediocre.

Also, something that might help make things interesting- dropping the maps to the 32 player versions. I know I played on Saturday on server 1 and they were all that size, and it felt more fun than the big maps.

Re: BF2, TG, and you

I enjoyed the no air maps that we played a while back. I don't really enjoy flying the chopper like I used to, everyone and their dog are ace pilot/gunners now, so all it turns into is chopper duels. And the maps without planes bombing makes it a completely different game. I found myself in firefights on parts of the map that I had never even seen before. I'm all for the TG mod 24/7, but I know it would just be an empty server, its a shame. Basically I'm just trying to enjoy BF2 until Armed Assault is released.

Re: BF2, TG, and you

Server's always full when I want to play; so that's basically the opposite problem.

Re: BF2, TG, and you

I still enjoy BF2 as much as I ever did... my thoughts:

1. I wish we played all the maps. (I don't hate any maps - they all have different play styles, that's all)

2. What about changing up some of the parameters - lower the ticket ratio, on increase the bleed rate or something - spice it up a little! Know what I mean... put more urgency in some of the long drawn-out battles?

3. I got Special Forces for x-mas, and I've yet to play it.... does SF night exist anymore? Seems I missed the boat on this one - apparently everyone played it for a week or two and then decided SF sucks or something?
