Karkand - 1/3/06 - midnight (EST)
Just wanted to give big props to my squad at karkand tonight! Gunrack (who joined mid-round), Rawhide, EmpireofMind, BulletHole, and Ntolerance - You guys did an amazing job of operating as a squad! ..keeping each other revived, healed and supplied, and most importantly keeping the enemy at bay!
We setup shop on the west side of the land bridge and stayed there most of the round - I think it was one of the most fun rounds I'd had in quite some time! I don't ever remember having a squad that died that infrequently! Especially not leading a squad on Karkand! with about 10 minutes left, i thought to myself "this squad rocks - i should post an AAR", so I snapped a screenie to remember the names... It's certainly nothing to brag about - just proud of what these guys did and wanted to put their names in lights (we weren't the top scoring squad, but we held "the corner" all night, and had a solid K/D as a squad)anyway - you guys are welcome in my squad anytime!! ![]() |

Re: Karkand - 1/3/06 - midnight (EST)
I haven't played for the last couple of weeks on TG bf2 (due to a little bit of bf2 burnout and playing nwn & ofp), so I didn't know what to expect. I'd have to say, though, that I was pleasantly surprised. Even though it was only 1/2 round, I liked what I saw of your SLing, Whiskey. I especially enjoyed how you kept the squad disciplined and cohesive, which in turn, made us very effective. Your asking for two medics also really helped, as it kept everyone else going (much props to the medics!).
I also enjoyed the next round, Dragon Valley. Even though you left on Dragon, Whiskey, the well-oiled effect of your SLing carried over to that round. That was just a great group of guys to play with. I even got to play with one of my TG favorites, Delta Swift, that round. Great games all around.

thanks - though i didn't do anything out of the ordinary, we just lucked out with a squad where everyone was on the same wavelength... every single time i issued orders, the whole squad immediately "got it"...
For example, when we were defending the west end of the land bridge (4 friendly flags on east-side), attacks would come from the south-west - where there's that big wall and staircase that leads down from the Square. Most of the attackers used grenades/GL's from up above before coming down to try and cross. We were setup back towards the river-crossing, mostly out of their range, and at one point, when there were nades popping like popcorn "over there", one of you guys said "that's fine, they can do that all day as far as i'm concerned". You have no idea how happy I was to hear that!!! I thought to myself "ahhhhh... they get it, they really get it" We hung back, made them fight on our terms, and they got wiped out. (on defense, you choose the place of the fighting - on offense, you choose the time). In so many other squads, guys would have broken cover, and ran towards them to engage. (You can almost see their eyes glaze-over when an enemy is spotted and they go into <cobra-commander-voice> ATTAAAAAAACK</ccv> mode It's an incredible feeling as SL, when everyone understands the big picture objective, and then improvises within that framework... (like when one of you thought to bring up a jeep from the factory, and parked it behind the southern-most box-car - gave us a .50-cal killzone extending all the way down to the out-of-bounds zone! worked brilliantly!) Anyway, thanks guys - it was a round I won't soon forget!! Last edited by WhiskeySix; 01-04-2006 at 04:16 PM. |

Re: Karkand - 1/3/06 - midnight (EST)
I knew it was over as soon as I saw an entire column of armor going past my squad on the outside of the river wall near the hotel. We were able to take out the tank, but not the APCs or the humvees. All we could do was slow down their advance from our main base and hope other squads came to our rescue, but I don't think anyone even noticed what happened until the US had the entire east side of the river.
I had tossed around the idea of doing my usual spawn at the main base, defend the east side plan, but figured maybe someone else would do it this time. No luck there. Lesson learned, heh.
