SF night 1/4
That was a lot of fun, even though I was on the losing side for three rounds. Not to say it was Bomando's fault as SL, it's always fun to serve on his squad - though I did sense some frustration during some of our failing moments. Reminds me of that old slogan "when at first you don't succeed, try try again." It really starts to suck though when you're trying for the 4th or 5th time.
We got hit by arty a lot. Those SF maps are pretty small, and when there are only two full squads per side, the chances of the enemy CO following you with arty strikes is pretty high (statistically at least 50% of the strikes will be on you). It's funny how you can feel like you're getting beat for a whole game, but in the end find the scores to be really close. Those were good games, and the action was pretty constant. Good job, everyone. |

Re: SF night 1/4
I lead one of the opFor squads for a round or two. Good times. Trying to get santa and crew off the fuel depot roof on the sub map was terrible though.
I kept asking luckyshot (co) to arty them off, and he tried, but for whatever reason we couldn't get them all. A very easily defended position up there. That was one of those moments where I actually wished I wasn't the SL. Since I was the SL and a sniper, I wouldn't be much use running up on the roof and blasting them all off. I tried to stay back, provide a spawn point if we lost the flag, and snipe if they popped their heads up. However, I really wanted to get up there myself and mow them down in a hail of bullets. We eventually lost the flag, but won the round.

Re: SF night 1/4
I really enjoyed the games last night. We ran through Ghost Town, Leviathon, Warlord and the one with the Chemical Weapons factory. I hopped in the Commander chair on Leviathon and the Chemical Weapons factory levels. I think the reason why your squad saw so much artillery was that you were out in the open and the other squad was indoors at the Chemical Weapons factory.
On the Leviathon level, I artilleried the Fuel Depot roof over and over, again because I couldn't arty the guys inside the Supply Depot. Squad 4 did a bang up job holding the Submarine Pens and the Armory. Squad 3 did a great job of holding the Fuel Depot for a long time before assisting in the Sub Pens and pushing back on the Depot flags. Squad 1,2,5 were good assist squads in attacking and defending various flags on the east side. The Warlord level is one of my favorites and the British forces did a good job penning us up in the Palace creating bleed. It wasn't until we were able to snag some back flags that we were able to reverse bleed and pull out the win. I think JMJ called me a Tool over this one... http://img234.imageshack.us/img234/7...reen0686bn.jpg Anyways, good games and can't wait to play again Lucky Shot Last edited by Lucky Shot; 01-05-2006 at 01:33 PM. |

Re: SF night 1/4
That was a lot of fun last night. On Warlord we were fighting to get Bhack off of that damn roof NE of the TV station. Then on Leviathon the tables were turned.
JMJ was our squad leader. He tasked us with holding the roof top of the base just after the enemy UCB. It was a hard fought battle. Last night was the most emphatic I've ever seen JMJ. It was both motivating and hilarious. "I don't care what you do! DO NOT LOSE THIS ROOF!" Then an arty strike would hit us, where upon JMJ would give Lucky Shot a piece of his mind. Sometimes we got lucky and a medic survived to revive him. Other times not...which would be followed by: "Someone get me a damn grappling hook! We cannot lose this roof!" Hey JMJ can I C4 the flag? "I don't care about the flag. DO NOT lose this roof!" Good times.

Re: SF night 1/4
The best part for me was on Mass Destruction, being run all over the place by our CO. I begged for my SL (SausageMakerMan) to convince the CO to let us defend 1 or 2 flags rather than doing the whack-a-mole and die in the open routine. Finally we started doing a little bit of defending and racking up the kills, and we got it to be a close game.
But truly the best part was at the very end when the CO said "you guys stayed still too much, you need to chase flags more". I could only imagine how Bomm's communications with him were going. ![]()

I'd get hit, pick up one of the 50 medic bags lunisicx had thrown, then look in the direction of where the hit indicator SAID the bad guy was shooting from, see nothing, get hit again, repeat. Finally I see the turd was sniping from behind some cover 2 miles away on a rooftop with like, his barrell exposed and thats it. Clever... clever.

Re: SF night 1/4
Anyone else get really bad lag on SF?
For some reason I get bad graphical lag on SF with the same settings I run on BF2. On BF2 by the way I get great performance every time unless my brother is on limewire or something (my ping will go up to about 1000.... grr) |

Re: SF night 1/4
We did really well in the end. The major difference was the OpFor having a top CO while we just seemed to get run around randomly. Flag hopping is not fun. There were many stages where we were down to one flag and as soon as we capped a new one, the one behind us would fall. This is probably the single most frustrating event that can happen to you as a SL.
The artillery was pretty boring. Like clockwork every 60 seconds. The last straw was getting hit by magical roof-penetrating artillery a few times. Not much you can do except look for cover. When you get hit even under cover, you just feel like giving up. I honestly think that with SF we really can't make those "no chopper" rules and such. They are too hard to enforce and keep people informed. So many times I walk past an empty chopper out of fairness, then some monkey gets in and hoses my whole squad with it. Let's just make it no-holds-barred in the future. Much less annoying. Great job to the squad. We all did good despite the frustration and the games were all within 30 or so tickets, so it was far from a big defeat. |

I had a lot of fun last night as well although I'm also confused how we felt like we were getting wailed on and yet the score remained fairly close. If only I had a nickel for everytime I heard Bommando screaming "SL Down!" hahaha...good times (I was typically dead by that time as well).
I think the major difference that I'm seeing in these SF games, especially the night ones, is that attacks occur from almost every direction and at random flags. Unlike Omen where we're going back and forth on the beach head, we essentially had a popcorn offense where we'd gain 1 flag and then go to another random flag and hope that we could take that over before the enemy takes our previous flag. A lot of that probably also had to do with the number of squads we had to work with. I kept seeing text messages from the CO to the effect of "Hey, you guys need to cover more ground!" ... I felt like I was in a constant state of Run as it was already. Just different I guess and we're still not all that used to the levels; I had a great time nonetheless. Looking forward to next Wednesday if I'm in town. |
