Becoming a permenant fixture...

In a squad?

I've noticed almost everyone here has a squad that they permenantly belong to. I want to join a squad. What do I have to do to do that? I just don't want to step on anyone's toes.

Thumbs up Re: Becoming a permenant fixture...

Actually, I just did.

Although I'm doing it on a month to month basis right now. I still have to pay my car insurance from last month. I'm hoping next week I can do the full year subscirption.

Re: Becoming a permenant fixture...

Are you talking about the actual squads in game, or those house squads mentioned in the thread above? I have noticed that people tend to clique together fairly often in squads. The problem is, there's a few really good squad leaders and people lock onto those squads and stay there for the night.

If that's the case, then you just have to be quick when you see an opening.

While yes, Some "IN-HOUSE" Squads like The 7th ( which is the best ) 42nd, 2nd, 1st MIP and so on, like to "squad-up" in-game, there are lots of times you will see members of in-house squads spread-out in the game.

And yes, alot of the time you need to be quick when getting into a squad that has a good squad leader.

One solution to that is, become one of the "BETTER" squad leaders. Then you will see that your squad is the one that everyone is waiting to get into !!

Re: Becoming a permenant fixture...

or even better yet PM one of the leaders of the inhouse squads and find out if they are recruiting..

next option is to start your own....get some good leadership and get one started...you can always find help when doing that...

Nowadays it seems TG is getting more and more really good SL's in-game. Some of the squads that fill up quick are guys (an' grrrls - BTW, where have Sugar and Sassy been?) that just have always played together and they know each others style.

For the in-house squad tags you see.. I may not be speaking for everyone when I say it, but you are probably welcome to hook up with any in-game squad dominated by a in-house squad.. if the squad is working on something specific, they may ask you to leave to make room for a squad member - but generally they want to get to know you as much as you just want to play. Spend a chunk of time in-game with the in-house squads.. get to know 'em, you might just find one that fits your style.. maybe not - its certainly no requirement.

And now you know why there are always plenty of open slots in Gixxers squad.

DOH!
I suddenly feel hunted.

The Irregulars are a squad that's always there for you, if you can't devote the time to an in-house squad or the money to become a SM.

Read the thread that Wulfyn put up a bit ago about the inhouse squads, that should give you all the info you need.

Re: Becoming a permenant fixture...

Thanks guys. I did read, then reread, then reread that thread again. All of the squads seem really cool. But I noticed that many of them are not at the moment recruiting. But that's ok. I feel I'd be more of a hinderance on them anyway since I've just started playing. I'm looking at joining the ranks of the Irregulars so that I can get some training and experience and hopefully like their Wiki states in time I could be drawn from their pool into one of the other squads.

And as for the question as to what am I looking for, I'm looking to at one point in time be a part of a squad with whom I play every game witht he same group of guys. Eventually, I'd like to move up and add my own squad to the TG list. Although I feel that right now it'd be pointless for me to create my own squad without the ability to follow some of the vets around and learn from them and be a part of their teams. I really am enjoying the fact that this site devotes a lot of it's energy on teamwork and squads. Not many online games do that and that is one of the reasons I got out of playing DoD, I always wanted more. I wanted command of a squad and I wanted to be a part of a large oganization who was efficient, friendly and had teamwork.

I hope my thinking isn't incorrect. I just don't feel that I'd be a very effective squad leader as of now and it'd be pointless to create it now without the skill nor experience to lead men/women into battle so I'm looking to spend quite a lot of time embedded in a squad, working with them, learning the tricks and trades of this game and becoming good at it.

Re: Becoming a permenant fixture...

Having one squad that you always play with is tough, because then if you all can't play at the same time it doesn't work out. Most people just join whatever squad is open, or create their own if they want to squad lead: you don't have to have this all set up before the game starts.

Re: Becoming a permenant fixture...

I know. I realized that it's hard to have a group of guys you always play together with as everyone's life is different.

BTW, I just figured out what your sig is of. Clone Troopers rock.

Re: Becoming a permenant fixture...

There are solutions though...

You can still have a fixed team which plays 2 days a week. Most team members can make at least one of them.

If you are playing more frequent than this, you just join the server and support other squads or create a new one.

Re: Becoming a permenant fixture...

Sorry if these are noob questions but do games start at predetermined times or are they (like the other servers) ongoing throughout the evening. If the latter and I log in during a game in progress do I just scroll through the available squads and hook up with one. I think that there's a time limit where you have to join a squad or get kicked. Are squads limited to a certain number.
How does this work if the SL has his tactics worked out and someone just pops up as a member. Does he (as a good soldier should) - adapt?
Thanks for any insight. I haven't participated in any of the TG servers yet and wanted to "know the ropes" before "getting my feet wet" (okay that's enough for one post).
