Thumbs up Thumbs up

Intro: I'm MrPaladin from the group known as TPF (Team Play First)... and high praise of your servers have been given on our boards on several occasions...

Played a few maps on your servers today... and I must aggree, the games were most enjoyable as our co-ordinated squads met other co-ordinated squads with proper commander support...

Even got a stint in the command chair when noone was feeling up to it to play a game with a victory of only 1 ticket...

good games... good server.... hope to get to know your regulars better as I hang out a bit more

Re: Thumbs up

Hi there. I'm pretty sure I was on your side when we won by 1 ticket. Man, that was intense. I was like "Okay, nobody die" and then we won.

Re: Thumbs up

yer nearing the end I was typing on the screen for all memebers to switch to defence and be conservative.... I was actually surprised we pulled in about 7 tickets at the end for the win...

It was sorta nice being on a server where squad leaders were requesting air support from commander and the commander could request the jets assist them and (refreshingly surprising) the jets would go and assist!!!

I'll definatly be playing about during daytime EST... I'm reading over the sig link now

EDIT: after reading the list I might have fallen in violation of the rules last night while in command... we were bleeding tickets so I flew the unused transport chopper from my command post out to a defence point the enemy was not defending in order to capture the flag... while I was laying there at the flag I was in the command screen knowing I was not going to be disturbed... is that in violation of the 'commander must always command' rule even (as you can see by the 1 ticket victory) that the manouver saved us?

Re: Thumbs up

Paladin - no one said that you cannot actually do something as CO, like grab a buggy and cap a flag, or grab a shotty and clear out the guys trying to take down your assets. The rule is there to ensure that commanders actually command, and don't just use the position to have their own personal artillery.

Certainly sounds to me like you prioritised commanding over anything else, and the intuition of grabbing an open flag seems like the sort of free thinking intelligence that makes a good strategist. If you had grabbed a tank or a jet and gone to the front line to rack up kills it would be a different story, but from the sounds of what you did you should be highly praised!

Re: Thumbs up

ahh good... I didn't think I would be tactically limited on your servers...

This will actually work well for my favored 'commander C4 defence tactic' hehe

Actually, our rules and Game Officer have stated exactly that.

Every second spent in a vehicle, fighting, or whatever, is a second that could be used to help guide your team to victory. Situational awareness suffers, your troops suffer, and the game suffers.

The only other thing the comm should be doing is basic repairs in base.
Paladin, welcome to the group and our server. Be sure to read the TG required reading, at the top of the forum index, including all threads relevant to BF2. Having done so, you're welcome to PM any BF2 admin if you have questions about the server rules. We'll be happy to help.

Darkilla: In short, NS is pretty much really fast chess. With guns. Apophis: I haven't seen anyone say that SM's are better than non-SMs. Nordbomber: This is THE first server I've seen where either side can comeback from out of seemingly nowhere with the right teamwork. en4rcment: I have NEVER experienced the type of gameplay that I have found here. Nightly I am amazed at the personalities and gaming talent. Root: Welcome to TG. Feel free to punctuate your sentences correctly. Monkerz: Its gonna take all my skills to beat those boys off in the future.

Re: Thumbs up

Wyz, engaging in front-line battles is entirely different from defending the assets with a shotgun or setting up shop in an abandoned camp. I thought the idea behind the rules was that commanders are supposed to command, instead of fight; it's alright if they help out their team by capping a flag or capping an enemy in the face with a bullet.

Re: Thumbs up

My intent was to foster any necessary edicts (as this sort of subjective thing doesn't lend itself well to discussion), not debate the details of them. You may have valid points/plans. I just wanted prior statements on the topic to be displayed.

Re: Thumbs up

ok I'll be watchful... tho I'm used to taking a defencive command post...

in a game today I was able to save several flags with c4 placements with no/negligable tactical loss to command

Well, you made it sound like the edict you were quoting was in direct opposition to Wulfyn's comment. I replied to show that hey, the edict you're quoting doesn't have much to do with what Wulfyn was talking about.

Re: Thumbs up

Wyz - the rules on CO behaviour are:

Quote:
7) Commanders MUST make commanding their top priority.
Quote:
B) Commanders MUST make their command role their primary activity. A commander should not be engaging in front-line battle if it impedes their ability to command their army and maintain awareness of what each squad is doing. In games where there are less players (i.e. 8v8) then the commander is able to join in the front-line battle.

Note it does not say anything about commanding being their only activity. As long as they stay clear of the front line action then they are not tied to the commander screen. Thus i repeat:

Quote:
no one said that you cannot actually do something as CO, like grab a buggy and cap a flag, or grab a shotty and clear out the guys trying to take down your assets.
If the flag happened to be on the front line then yes, someone said that you cannot do that (if it impedes them), but it is the front line, not the buggy, flag, shotgun, or asset defence that is the issue here.
