Captains go down with the ship...
The last couple games on Sharqi I have been surprised at a flag to see the US roll in with 2 tanks repairing each other or the APC in US hands. What I can gather is that someone from the MEC rolls the armor into battle and takes a shell or two damage. The driver hops out of their damaged rig leaving it for the enemy who repairs and then slaughters the MEC with it.
If you drag an armor piece onto the battlefield, DO NOT LEAVE IT FOR THE ENEMY. Either battle to the death, or destroy it. The person who saves 1 death in their own stats can lead to 15-20 teammates deaths in teammates trying to take the APC or 2nd tank down. In history, Captains go down with the ship. It is only honorable that the armor is destroyed before you leave it with you in it, or by your hand before you pursue activities on foot. Lucky Shot |

Re: Captains go down with the ship...
A few nights ago I was in jimmytwohand's squad on TV defense, and about 4 MEC guys drove the APC up to the back entrance, and then they all bailed out without taking any damage! 20-30 minutes later someone from MEC was on teamspeak asking why the APC wasn't spawning, so I thanked them for the gift

Last night, we saw 2 Tanks at the hotel, and later we spotted Icky driving to the TV station with our APC under the protection of their tank. The APC pinned us down enough where we lost the construction site that we had previously successfully defended. Lucky Shot Last edited by Lucky Shot; 01-11-2006 at 04:16 PM. |

Agreed, Lucky. Just die with it. Heck, you may survive longer than you'd expect, or at the least, take a few more out before you go. And you definitely do not want to leave your APC to the likes of a Barracuda. I mean, he's a barracuda.

More on topic, if you're an engineer, make sure you withdraw to a safe area before you get out to repair. Even if you've got someone else to man it for you, you should probably pull back a little ways.

Re: Captains go down with the ship...
My clan for bf42 used to have a similar rule.. don't jump from a tank if you don't have a friendly nearby that can finish it off.. likewise.. when attacking always destroy the enemy assets if you can't man them yourself asap to prevent them getting used against you.

Re: Captains go down with the ship...
Very good point. I've made this mistake before and paid dearly for it.
That reminds me of when a "not to be named" recent non-SM forum addition drove his tank up to a flag I was defending. I was standing alone in plain view on the opposite side of the flag maybe 20yds away. He fires one round at me with the main gun and misses. He hops out and starts running, firing at me the whole time with his rifle. Then he plops prone down on to the flag. He stops shooting entirely as if I wouldn't notice that he was there. Almost bewildered into not moving, I slap myself out of dumbfoundedness, run around the flag in plain view, and hop into his tank, whereupon I fired one shot on the flag killing him. It was one of the most surreal moments I've ever had in BF2.

Re: Captains go down with the ship...
I don't know about this advice.....
My favorite thing in the world is to attach C4 to an enemy tank, make it obvious that someone is attaching C4 after the fact so that you'll bail and then I steal the tank....if you don't bail how am I supposed to have fun shooting you with it while you flee from the "C4". ![]() |

Re: Captains go down with the ship...
I absolutely love when people leave me presents like that.
My personal solution to that problem is a couple of sticks of c4 on the tank. For assurance, and even if they kill me in it theres an added explosion from the c4 which is likely to kill someone close by. |

Re: Captains go down with the ship...
If you're going to leave the tank behind and want to c4 it, here's an alternative I love using, since nobody expects it:
