Exclamation This is your FREE weekend people!

Let's see some action on our DoD server!

Don't be afraid to be the first to join, after all an empty server is great to explore in, learn the weapons, and begin to develop rudimentary strategies!

You have three days, make them count!

I would but the link to download maps downloads the wrong maps (right names different maps) and it takes too long to download through steam.

Re: This is your FREE weekend people!

Well I played on the server last night, I took advantage of the free weekend, I have never played DoD before so all the maps were new to me. There was a mixture of players on, a few TG guys and players I recognised from the TG forums, there were some pubbers too whose play and attitude left a lot to be desired.

I don't quite know what to make of the game, it looks nice but at times is very frustrating. For a while it seemed like I couldn't hit a barn door, then midway through the night I had a run of kills in one map that made me a little happier. It's odd though when you are knelt down in a corner, got the drop on a guy who comes in the room and stops a metre away from you, but when you hit him with a burst in his back, he turns and kills you instantly, really wierd!

I guess it's not BF2 where there are several small squads and teamwork can be played properly. With 10 a side, it was difficult to get any planned moves going even though the TG guys were trying, and I believe managed to win a few maps with their teamwork. I was wearing |TG| tags, not for any glory or anything like that, but to show that I have read the recommended posts and that I am a big believer in teamplay and want to learn and play the TG way. I guess it was a bit difficult for the TG guys last night to take me under their wing but on the whole I did enjoy the experience and will play again today.

I played a few maps and the game is great when you've got a few people working together. One tough spot about the game is that if you don't have good machine guns your strategy is limited because eventually someone is going to have to hold some ground long enough for the team to respawn. Once a pair of machine guns do start leap-frogging over each other though, the game really gets moving.

Best part of the night was stealing a German machine gun, capturing the last flag, and then sticking it to the Geneva Convention!

Is there anyway to adjust the graphics prior to loading the game? When I tried to load it up, it just froze on what I would assume is some kind of observing/waiting-to-enter screen. Hitting ESC or many other random keys never brought up anything, and I never saw any movement on the screen. I eventually had to power down my computer because I couldn't get anywhere with alt-tab or CTRL-ALT-Delete.

Do you crash when you launch the game without connecting to a server?

This happens to me when ZoneAlarm blocks access. For some reason, Source games won't give up window focus to ZoneAlarm and I'm forced to hard reboot my PC. I then open ZoneAlarm, grant the new HL2.exe entry server rights and restart the Source game. Annoying as heck, but I haven't found a workaround...

Dunno, if your problem is related or not... Are you using Steam to "Launch Game", or are you trying to connect directly to the TG server? If you "Launch Game", you can adjust all of your settings before actually joining a game.

Thanks guys. I was connecting directly to server. I'll try to Launch Game and see if that helps.

Played a few rounds last night. Had a good time. Will have to play more to get back in the groove.

Re: This is your FREE weekend people!

If no one can tell...i'm totaly hooked on this game. Nothing says love for your fellow man like a 7mm Mauser round to the chest. I tried a few other servers yesterday when ours was empty....guess what...it sucked. Ours still has a way to go, but i'm going to be there to help out any way i can. Anyhow...i'll start sitting on an empty server just to get others to join. I'd like to see us get a TG following on this to match our other games.
