Machine gun movement..

ok, first time playing yesterday, loved it, bought it and did well.

question: when i am a machinegunner, i place the weapon and then it seems like my mouse/gun sight moves very slowly while in game while strafing left and right, up and down. With an SMG or any other weapon, my sight moves freely and smoothly.

Any ideas as to why this occurs? I want to rake left and right with the machine gun but it is way to labored and slow.

Thanks,
Ben

Re: Machine gun movement..

You mean when you deploy the MG? My guess is it's an attempt at realism. Having never fired a gun, I wouldn't know.

yes, when i deploy it to fire it, it moves left and right very slowly. not realistic at all though.

Re: Machine gun movement..

That's pretty much how it is in 1.3 as well.

Likely this is completely intentional, so that you CAN'T rake left and right. It seems to me like a great way to balance the weapon within the context of the game so that it isn't absurdly overpowered.

Re: Machine gun movement..

oh. i simply wonder because when i am on the receiving end of the big gun it seems to follow me quite well, yet when i use it it hardly moves.

Re: Machine gun movement..

You can solve this in 2 ways....I use broads sweeping motions with my mouse while using the MG.

The easier way is an MG bind that toggles you sensitivity between A high setting and a low setting, so that it pumps it way up whenever you pull out your MG, allowing it to move quicker.

Must....try....to.....resist....

Type kill in your console, then hit F10

(I'm sure you'll get a sensible answer from someone)

Re: Machine gun movement..

Play balance with the MGs are accomplished by restricted fire arc and needing to deploy it. The slowed response is just a nuisance, but would have been a balancing thing. it allows a close range enemy to run out of your fire arc before you can get your gunon them.

Re: Machine gun movement..

Picking the right spot for the MG is the Key. I don't have a problem with it if i'm in the right position.

Re: Machine gun movement..

Well I'm not the best with binds so I can't make one that toggles for you.

But you can use 2 buttons.

Bind "x" Sensitivity "a"
Bind "y" Sensitivity "b"

Where x and y are the 2 buttons you want to use; and where a and b are the 2 sensitivity settings you want to use (I think DoD:S Defaults to 5).

Now if you ever open your options menu they will be unbound so you might want to set them up in a config file. There are alot of tutorials for this as far as HL and HL2 are concerned so you might wanna check them for details.

Hope I was helpful.
