Server-side map mods

Are we going to see the server mods back into the server. Really the only thing that stupid is that basically no map has bleed and it becomes very annoying. Im sure it takes time, but it is something that is planned for the near future?

Re: Server-side map mods

Icky has indicated that he will have the bleed mod ASAP. The other mods will be evaluated.

Re: Server-side map mods

I'd really like to see what the community things about the Domination mod (not to be confused with AAS which is linear). It's a supply lines type modification that I think would work well with TacMod. View my post on it, pay close attention to the images.

Re: Server-side map mods

It looks like it works better with some maps than others. Still, the lattice brought a lot of tactics into Planetside, and it might work here. I wonder though, how well it works in the game, i.e. how well does it show players what's available for capture at any given point.

It would definitely create real "fronts". You could still go around and work from behind enemy lines, but focus would always be on the frontline flags.

Seems like it'd be worth a shot...

Re: Server-side map mods

Just to be clear, the bleed didn't disappear because we weren't paying attention. We wanted to run 100% stock BF2 for a bit after the 1.2 patch to get a feel for what changes we NEED.

We need bleed. I have done up the bleed changes again, so you can expect to see it soon.

The BH nerf is gone and won't return. DICE has done a good enough job of reducing the deadliness of the BH gun. The main change is that the explosion damage radius was reduced to 0.25 m from 3 m.

As for the map changes, you can expect to see some of those again in various forms pretty soon.

Re: Server-side map mods

Marconi, when the mod was first written it was written as a server side only mod. Since it could possibly be used in TacMod (which is downloadable) there may be more things we can do with it. As it is now, the only way you know what bases are attackable is thru the messages listed at the top of the screen. However, with a commander and the mandatory squad system that TG uses, I highly doubt there would be any confusion as to which bases needed to be defended and which could be attacked.

I know that you guys tried the AAS mode before and hated it, and personally I hate it too. Only allowing one attackable base doesn't create a front line, it creates a disaster. With the domination mod, the front lines are more realistic and the setup lends itself to being much more player friendly while still focusing battles on key parts of the map.

Re: Server-side map mods

The key difference with the Planetside lattice is you always had 2 or 3 bases on the lattice to choose from, not just one. If a mod allowed multiple capture points then the fight over one CP might not be so intense, since you can have 2 or 3 to choose from and still possibly have a sense of sneaking by the main force and capturing a base.

Did you even bother to read my post and check out the thread in the mod forums? There are clear concise pictures of what the supply lines system looks like and it's very similar to the PlanetSide system.

That's um, exactly what this domination mod is, apparently.

Edit: Beat by Tzefanya to the punch. The point still stands though :P

I wasn't talking about the domination mod, but the other one TG tried.

I guess my last post was too subtle. Take your off-topic discussion to another thread please.

Re: Server-side map mods

After reading about that domination mod I'd definitely be interested in trying it out on a trial basis...and since it is server side only, it doen't prevent pubbies from joining and finding our community.

Re: Server-side map mods

I had no idea that the bleed was a server mod and wasn't like that in all BF2 servers. hmm..
