help for 56k'ers?

http://ucguides.savagehelp.com/Conne...Q/Halflife.htm

http://www.tweak3d.net/tweak/win2kmodem/3.shtml
(look at port tweaks)

turning off error connection and modem compression or whatever its called can help ping too (although make downloading slow)

http://www.inboost.com/speed-tweaks/modem-tweaks.html
is also good... although quote

Use error control should be CHECKED (not really true for gaming, depends on isp)
Compress data should be CHECKED (again, not true for gaming, the compression can add to the latency and errors/loss you get)...

oh and it also says:
What about the Extra settings you say? This is for an initialization string that you can add. I never experienced any performance boost with the init string

now this is what i ment by forcing the modem to slower speeds...It sometimes works. Ie your line may connect at 54k, but its not really able to DO that speed. You need to tweak whats best really. search for init strings for your modem name, should have a list somewhere with someing like a code like

s11=12 (44bps)
s11=13 (46bps) etc etc...(made these up, but it should look something like that....

I remember my 56k days, It was fun, always tweaking out settings and still owning people. (presteam)

I never could get connected higher than 32k. I almost miss those days.

Re: help for 56k'ers?

Don't need a new CD key.

Log out of STEAM and log back in.

Problem fixed.

Of course it was quicker to google it than look on the Steam forums.

More fun than a pile of

"Version 1.1 sucks big time"

"Version 1.2 sucks big time, version 1.1 was the best"
