IRC Channel Tutorial (for GAIMers)

Below is a step-by-step guide for adding IRC/a chat into your GAIM account, created by your neighborhood GAIMer! (Me! )

This is for creating a GAIM IRC account

Step 1) Open up your buddy list.





Step 2) Click on the "Accounts" menu, and then on "Add/Edit" (shortcut is Ctrl+A)





Step 3) Once inside the menu, click on the dialog box that reads "Add".





Step 4) Select "IRC" from the "Protocol" drop-down menu.





Step 5) Enter in the required information (Screen name, server, and an alias if you like). Click the "Save" button.

The following is for adding the IRC Chat

Step 6) Return to the buddy list. Click on the "Buddies" button from the file menu, and select "+ Add Chat"





Step 7) From the "Account" drop-down menu, select your newly created IRC account.





Step 8) Enter the necessary information. Then click the "Add" dialog box.





Step 9) Open up the group you added the chat to, on your buddy list. Double-click it to join! (It will open as another tab in your IM window, if you have it configured that way like me).

Poe, when you join #tacticalgamer, are you manually performing /authserv, or is there a way to automate it?

That should allow you to do it automatically. There is no core, built-in way at the moment, which is why a plug-in is necessary.


(Don't even try to work out some elaborate, sneaky thing with buddy pounces... trust me, doesn't work).
