Well, I was playing for a short while yesterday on Zatar, and there weren't very many players on, so I joined the JETS squad to provide some intel and AA support. The round went along as it usually does, with the center island changing hands throughout the round, so on and so forth.
What really interested me came into play with about 8 minutes left in the game. I was driving back to the Factory flag, so that I could set up an AA site to counter the enemy jets in the vicinity, and I saw this while looking around: (click for larger size) ![]() "hmm", I thought, "A little strange." So I asked Robocop, if he was seeing the same thing I was, since I saw him getting out of his tank and walking in the direction of what I was seeing (What!? Robo getting out of his perfectly good Tank!?) So we both approached cautiously to the indicators in our view. Lo and behold! This is what we saw: ![]() And I think Robo's reaction seemed to describe both of our feelings at the time. So, yeah So you say "What do you do next?" Hehehe. "Testing". As you can see here, Robo did a little "testing" with his trusty shotgun: ![]() And the results are evident in this picture: ![]() As you can see, the one in the back is no longer there. From our calculations, it took Exactly 5, point blank, shotgun blasts to destroy one of these UAVs. We ended up doing other, various bits of testing, of which Evil Lemon helped in (He joined us a couple of minutes after the initial discovery) As you can note here, Robo was able to put the wrench to this thing, and repair it while I did a bit of "testing" of my own: ![]() Unfortunately, the round timer ran out as I was working on our most ambitious tests. Moving the UAV with a buggy. Hope you enjoy our test results, and maybe you can perform your own controlled environment tests with the wonder that is the 1.21 patch. (admins feel free to move this to the pics and galleries forum, I just wanted to show it to the BF2 section first) |

Re: A Little Fun with 1.21
I noticed those random red "UAV" markers last night but just kinda shrugged it off. Now I'm going to have to track one down!

Re: A Little Fun with 1.21
Very interesting. I like the concept of downed fueselage. This raises the possibility of teabagging the pilots that have owned me in the past.

![]() There could be an ambush tactic in there if you can figure out how to plant a UAV...it would be the equivalent of the enticing 'shiny thing' on the ground that the curious can't resist...and when they gather you can whack 'em. Okay maybe not so practical...but it struck me that with Robo out of his tank, wrenching away at a downed UAV and Phoenixx watching intently I might actually have a chance to shoot them... ![]() Cheers. |

Re: A Little Fun with 1.21
This may answer the question of what those random, red distance markers on my 3-D map are actually marking.....
Nah.....

Although I doubt it, because we had no enemies approach us (Except for planes flying by, that were chased away by our own). |

Re: A Little Fun with 1.21
Awesome C4 trap, lay a couple of packs under it, wait till half their team gets near to see whats going on and then hitting the trigger
