Finally we can stop the 'But EA isn't the Dev' arguement

Because EA finally just took over outright.

Not that EA wasn't calling all the shots before anyway but at least this one nitpick is now gone.

No it isn't. DICE has made like, 3 games. That's tiny.

Yeah but now that EA has the capabilities to create its own games and basically control every single aspect of them, release, PR, developement its gonna create some problems for those companies out there that just arent as big as EA. I dont know maybe thats just me that sees a bad outcome of this

Re: Finally we can stop the 'But EA isn't the Dev' arguement

Besides, EA has owned controlling stock for a little over a year and basically controlled DICE for longer than that (a developer's publisher exerts a great deal of control over the developer in the current gaming market).

The Publisher/developer relationship generally works like this when they are separate: The Developer is basically producing a product to the publisher’s specifications on a negotiated timeline with specific milestones that need to be met along the way. If the Developer fails to meet those milestones at any point the Publisher can back away but more commonly renegotiates the deal to try and recoup their investment.

Short form: The Developer generally works for the Publisher, not the other way around. All this purchase does is cut down EA's need to 'negotiate' with DICE on the next game. Now they can just say 'make it go'.

As for seeing a bad outcome--- if you're not alrady seeing the EA behavior poke it's head out then maybe you're overlooking the flaws that EA has declined to really address in BF2, instead moving forward with their 'map pack' revenue stream.

They have actually made quite a few games: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Illusions_CE

Though to be honest, most of them don't sound very good

What happened to Westwood when EA got ahold of them? Bye bye time for DICE?

I edited out because it wasn't like you would really be searching for that. I don't think you killed any cats, came close but I don't think it counts.

Go Go EA stock. Owned it for years and have been reaping the rewards in my portfolio's unrealized return.

Re: Finally, we can stop the 'But EA isn't the Dev' argument!

I hope EA don't make too many changes within DICE. As much as I've bitched about particular aspects of BF2 it really is extremely well done. I have fewer technical problems with it than any other game, and it's still fun months and months after release.
