Post Tactical Gamer fully supporting Booster Packs

Hello Tactical Gamers,

After much deliberation, the BF2 admin team has decided to announce full-time support for both Euro Force and Armored Fury Booster Packs for BF2.

It seems we have been sitting on a fence with this for quite some time and it has come time to take an assertive new direction for BF2 support at Tactical Gamer. It is becoming apparent that many people are growing tired of vanilla maps and playing the same games on the same maps over and over. While we are aware that this may cause a drop in population, we are of the opinion that in order to add spice to a game which has already captured interest for a long time, we need to make a decisive move.

This is not a test! Fire up those boosters and get ready, because these maps will be making an appearance in general rotation every standard night on Server 1. Until further notice, we will still be hosting the Tac Mod on Sunday and Thursday nights from 8PM EDT.

We believe this is necessary to keep BF2 fresh and interesting for our players, so we ask that the TG community supports us in this decision and continues to make Tactical Gamer the number 1 server for mature and team-oriented BF2

Cheers,

The BF2 Admin Team.

Re: Tactical Gamer fully supporting Booster Packs

I happen to support the booster packs. But aside from my personal interest, a big thank you to the BF2 admin team for taking the time to really explore the positive and negative impacts of making this move.

I know the decision wasn't taken lightly and I'm proud to be part of a community where people really think through changes before making them and attempt to always have the best interest of the community as a high priority.

Re: Tactical Gamer fully supporting Booster Packs

Boo. Lately I haven't seen Tactical Gamer servers with more than 20 people(max). Now I won't be able to play a few hours without being kicked because it's a map I don't have from a booster. I've been forced to play public servers, and let me tell you. If I see another prone spamming bunny hopping player that whines if you kill them with an unlock ever again, I'm going to shoot myself...

in the foot... with an airsoft gun.

Also, now wouldn't the players that bought EF and not AF, just be dropped once an AF map comes up? That'd lead to even less players on the server.

Re: Tactical Gamer fully supporting Booster Packs

I fully support BF2 admin team's decision. Thank you gentlemen for putting this determined step forward.

I hope we all behave mature and do the right thing now. There are two options. Get those booster packs and have a good time on the server or if you are not going to get them, dont complain and ruin the fun for others. For an active BF2 community, BF2 vanilla is almost dead so this change is absolutely necessary.

Do it (join or stay out) not for greedy EA, not for DICE but for a strong and united TG community !

ROCK ON!!! I will now put AF on my must buy list.

Does this mean we won't see vanilla now? I still enjoy the vanilla maps as well.

Re: Tactical Gamer fully supporting Booster Packs

Guys, during our debates another admin pointed out that something like this is not unprecedented at TG. In order to play Ghost Recon you are required to have both expansion packs. No packs, no play. Please keep in mind that with a lot of games there is a general progression like this to keep the game lively.

Re: Tactical Gamer fully supporting Booster Packs

Very good decision. Except for some stupid bug that keeps telling me that the TG server doesn't support modified content and kicks me off.

boohoo for me.

But good for everybody else.

Re: Tactical Gamer fully supporting Booster Packs

Yes, this decision did not come lightly and we came to the conclusion that when a game is waning, there are a couple of things you can do:
  1. Watch it die into obscurity while everyone moves to other games.
  2. Support existing boosters / expansions which add fresh content to keep people interested.

When you think about it, the choice becomes obvious. Big battles are where it's at. We could either have smaller battles on the same maps we were playing a year ago, or we could provide the community with support for new content and see if they support us back. If people are dedicated enough to TG and can spare the price of a sandwich, then we believe these boosters will work. The maps are great and the variations are welcome.

As JMJ said, there is precedent for this. If a mod like PoE or FH2 was out now, we'd be sure to support it, but it isn't, so for now we still have Tac Mod with a great following and the boosters will provide much-needed fresh content at negligible cost.
