Joystick

Thinking of purchasing a joystick to further my not-so-great flying skills. Anyone here have a joystick ATM, and do you like it/is it worth it? I'm thinking of possibly the Saitek Cyborg EVO, I'd give you a link, but I'm not allowed .

Thanks.

Re: Joystick

I have the same joystick and I love it. Easy to customize buttons, as I guess all joysticks are. I have not had any problems with mine.

Re: Joystick

I use mouse and keyboard. I have never had any trouble with it, except when I turned up the sensitivity, that was not pretty...

Re: Joystick

I also have the EVO and love it - it comes with programmable software to let any button do anything (or even multiple things via macros)

it's also got a nice sturdy throttle lever - makes flying helo's a lot easier - set that to about 30% or so - whatever it takes to hover... then you only need to press W and S to increase/slowdown the rotor.

Re: Joystick

I tried the PS2 type game pad and couldn't make it work. It wasn't the pad it was me. I went back to Best Buy and bought the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro (it was less than 20$ on sale) and have loved it. I still can't fly very well do to lack of practice but I can do alot more with fewer skills with this joystick than I could with the game pad. Just a thought. Heck for less than 20$ you really can't lose.

The saitek cybord evo's awesome, had it for over 2 years and never had a problem. At times it becomes uncalibrated but just recalibrate and it's fine.

I've been through 2 flight yolks, Logitech Force feedback something, broke after a 5 months, and a Logitech no force feedback, broke after a year. The z rotation is what died on both, uncalibratable.

Go with Saitek.

Re: Joystick

I have the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro. I'd like to just be able to plug it in mid-play, and go from there. But, I have to exit out of game, open the software, then launch the game from THAT software. It doesn't even work if the software is already running, and the stick is plugged in, & I start BF2 after. It has to be launched from in the joystick software. This is even more of a problem bcuz I run BF2 at a non supported resolution, and it's not possible to put the shortcut in w/ the resolution size in the Logitech software.

Soo, is there anything I can do about this?

Re: Joystick

I have a Logitech Twist handle and I have no problems. Plug and Play for me.

Re: Joystick

I've found my Saitek Cyborg 3D Gold USB to be very nice. The EVO was too light weight for me, but since they don't make mine anymore, the EVO would be a good choice. It has to have Twist, though. Then you have all 3 axis: roll, pitch, and yaw. Using twist for yaw can be very helpful when flying, IMO.
