Ahoy fellow TacticalGamers! [New Player]

Just wanting to give my greetings to the CoD2 community over here. Right now I'm installing the game (and trying to keep my sanity over this installation music)... It's off a friend's borrowed copy though, so hopefully I'll find a cdkey somewhere and be playing with you guys soon! (If you know someone with a spare key, lemme know ).

I originate from CS:S, Dystopia, Natural Selection, in that order... I've always been a fan of WW2-era games, so with any luck this'll float my boat. I'm drooling over bolt-action guns already...

I have a few questions for the community here though.
  1. Is the server often populated other than the CoD2 Wednesday's?
  2. What makes CoD2 unique in comparison to other games, if anything?
  3. Any tips for a newcomer?
  4. How about tips for a sniper fan?

Thanks for all your time, and I look forward to playing with you all.

Welcome, poe! Would that we had more Tactical Gamers like yourself coming over to play CoD2 here!

Unfortunately, no. There are still efforts underway to bring more players to the server on other nights, but so far they've borne little fruit.

Well, the multiplayer portion of the "vanilla" game isn't all that unique, and it isn't all that great, IMO. However, through many tweaks and modifications, we've managed to bring the multiplayer component of the game very much into line with the Tactical Gamer style of play. Hopefully it will be to your enjoyment!

For now, I would recommend just joining the server (empty though it may be) and checking things out. You'll be able to grab the downloads, and you'll be able to run around the maps and check out the various weapons. You can change maps on the server by calling a vote and then selecting a new map (you'll see this feature within the in-game menus). If you wanted, I'd be happy to meet up with you on the server sometime before next Wednesday and hold a few targets for you.

I'll leave that question for Trooper.

Looking forward to playing with you soon, poe!

poe you are gonna love the sniper rifle in this game. We spent alot of time tweaking it and getting setup just right. Couple things that i just love about it:
1. Recoil, it will knock you on your butt
2. When you rechamber it takes down the scope. In the vanilla game you can shoot off to many rounds and never unscope
3. Made it sway alot more.

i would say its probably the best sniper rifle in the market today. Poe you name a time and day and i will see if i cant make it.

I'm new as well, and sorry to open my mouth about this but... my tip would be don't blatently announce that you are stealing the game.

I understand if you just want to try it out, but if you like it and find you are playing it a lot then you should buy it.

All due respect,

Uh, just to clarify, I am by no means stealing the game. I didn't burn a copy, or any illegit methods like that. I installed the game from it's original discs... it does not require a disc to be present when you initiate multiplayer. In fact, it gives in -in game function- to allow you to change your Key Code...otherwise I wouldn't have even mentioned that. I don't mean to be rude in return, but I fail to see how that's stealing.

And thank you for all the welcomes and tips. It's get to see some familiar faces here

Well, the disks don't really matter its the liscense that we pay for, and if you are running the game borrowed from your friend its really not much different then downloading a version from someone you don't know. Point of view I suppose.

Anyway, I didn't mean to offend. I am definitely guilty of doing the same type of things, either downloading apps or borowing a disk from a friend. But I never publicly announce that type of thing, both for my own sake and for the reputation of the forum I am posting on. Probably because if I have not paid for it I view it as stealing, regardless of whether it was borrowed from a friend or downloaded via a torrent.

Also, if I like and use the application I will always buy it. I'm sure you will do the same, and even if you don't its really none of my business so next time I will keep my beak shut.

Again, no offense meant.

Peace,

~sparrow

Well said sparrow. I'm behind you 100%. If you didn't buy the game, then it's stealing, especially if you don't have a legit CD Key, or need someone elses.

I finally bought my copy of COD2, now all I need is the Mac version to get up to date with the PC version so I can play with fellow Tactical Gamers. Hopefully within the month it's updated, cause I can only play on run n gun public servers for so long.

Unfortunately, this game runs poorly on my machine. I'll see if I can tweak it some, but no promises. If nothing else, you got Al_Capone who is very much into CoD2 :P
