What makes battlefield fun for you?

Fun is such a subjective thing and I read in posts how this is fun or that isn't fun. So I wanted to find out what makes playing battlefield 2 (vanilla or tacmod) fun for you?

And conversly, I see posts or comments about something being boring. What's normally going on in-game that is making it boring?

Re: What makes battlefield fun for you?

I'm still having fun, a year later, because there are so many things for me to do in the game. Fly a jet. Fly a chopper. Snipe. Blow up assets. Shoot rockets at tanks. Shoot guns at people. The action is fun.. Things blowing up all round, jets screaming overhead, enemies attacking from every direction.

Fighting is fun. Dieing over and over without a chance to fight is not fun.

Talking and listening to people talk is fun. BF2 is really the first time that I've made use of voice communications in a game (CS had it, but I never played with a group that used it), and that extra bit of human interaction brings playing to a whole new level for me.

Playing at TG is fun. Since I'm not a one-trick pony and enjoy doing so many different things, it's nice that people are willing to share jets and let others drive tanks. Everyone is usually working towards a common goal in the game.. I have people that I can depend on to help me accomplish my mission.

I get bored doing the same thing round after round. Playing medic is fun. Playing medic for 4 rounds straight gets boring. Crashing my jet in to trees is fun. Crashing my jet in to tress for 3 or 4 rounds is not fun. Which leads me back to what's fun -- I can do so many different things that it's somewhat rare for me to get bored. Losing is boring, rolling over an opponent is boring (aside from releasing steam against bots ). I like rounds that come down to the wire because both teams were evenly matched.

Re: What makes battlefield fun for you?

The comradery within a sqaud using VOIP is what keeps me coming back again & again.

The best fun is out-shotgunning Robo and out-snipping Santa, I'm had partial success, I'm still working on this, after all it is worth $200,000

Re: What makes battlefield fun for you?

I just like all of the diffrent outcomes and diffrent ways to attack flags and play the game. VOIP makes it so much more fun. And what people said above.

I don't like dying over and over or being killed by that same tank that's sitting just outside of the flag capture radius.

Re: What makes battlefield fun for you?

I love playing with a tight squad, either on defense or attack. I've never liked riding around in armor or air, but I don't get bored ground pounding. I even keep it to pretty much three kits that I excell at, but they're enough to keep me occupied. I like the thrill of going toe to toe with a piece of armor that can kill you in one swat, but being sneaky enough to take it down. I like feeling the battle wash over me as I see stuff that I could only see in the movies happen all around me.

For instance: One time on daqing, I was the last man left in an attack on the refinery flag. I went prone in the garage at the same time a tank rolled past me. I'm assault, so I can't do anything to stop it. He sees me, and all I can do is sit there and wait for the inevitable. I can feel the guy smiling to himself and taking his sweet chinese time pulling the trigger. He thinks "Do i blow him fifty feet in the air, or fill him full of holes. Ok, the air it--" But the he gets cut off by being blown up by a friendly f-15.

I felt like I was in saving private ryan or something. I don't like ot operate armor or air vehicles, but I'm glad they're there. The whole experience that happens when the game is working, when it gets close to feeling hyper-real (like in an action movie) is when I love this game.

Re: What makes battlefield fun for you?

Yeah I like the whole squad + voip combination. That is what truly sets Battlefield apart. I also agree with Homan. If you're in an awesome squad just ground pounding just doing straight infantry battles then that's really alot of fun for me. I really have the most fun playing maps such as Karkand, Great Wall, and Inishail. I know Battlefield is supposed to be about vehicles and airpower but the developers have done a great job with the infantry part of it and I find that most appealing.

What I don't find fun is being continuously bombed on Oman on one of the beach flags with little defense. No the anti air does not work on jets. Pilots are just too good on this server. I'm glad that's one thing they're rectifying in 2142.

LOL...the Saving Private Ryan factor is always a thrill for me. As an SL, my most favorite times playing is having a good commander that coordinates multiple attacks on an objective. From air support to tanks and other squads. As a squad member, I enjoy good communication of where contacts are and teamwork. I share the same sentiments about some of the downfalls of the game: spawnkilling etc.

Re: What makes battlefield fun for you?

I specifically enjoy just moving with a squad from point to point in an intelligent manner, preferably with voip. I remember once in inishail when our squad just executed the perfect maneuver by flanking a group of enemies bu use of suppressing fire from the rest of the team. Those moments do it for me.

Interesting question in this thread.

Re: What makes battlefield fun for you?

I enjoy those desperate moments that come every so often that leave you almost exhausted. From fighting off an assault that includes air, artillery, armor and infantry to being such a thorn in a commander's side that he sends a full squad to hunt you down for blowing up his assets and yet you some how manage to escape.

Sure it gets frustrating at times when I can't seem to stay alive for more than 30 seconds or I seem to lose every firefight but here at TG I always seem to forget the last night's scores and fire up the game with the same feeling I had when I first downloaded the demo almost a year ago.

Re: What makes battlefield fun for you?

Having VoIP and getting to play with people you get familiar with is a lot of fun, but I have the most fun during those moments when I go into "Super Medic" mode. Every once in a while I'll having a night where almost nothing can kill me. I can charge through arty without a scratch, reviving teamates as I go. I can run into a building with 3-5 enemies while I franticly unload my AK (or M16) into them then switch to my pistol and empty that, and then whip out my knife and stab the last one. (It doesn't happen often, but when it does it's a blast) Of course what's even better than that is if you can get your whole squad to pull of something like that at once from multiple directions. It doesn't get better than that.

What I don't like is artillery, especially when it is used for something silly, like firing arty at a lone sniper. This happened to me several times last night on Karkand while defending from the east side of the river. It doesn't help the team that fired it because I was back in 15 seconds and all the artys after that failed to kill me because I knew they were coming. The arty would have been much more useful elsewhere and was totally unnecessary in this case. Any monkey with an M24 could have taken me down.
