Snipers take a look..

What is your style of sniping?

Do you run around looking for targets to kill or do you prefer to enter the non-urban maps (i.e not Sharqi, Karkand, Mash City etc) and find some secluded spot in the trees and wait patiently, sometimes ages, for targets to snipe at?

I'd like to think there are snipers out there that take sniping that seriously, but I dunno, are there?

Any stories to tell?

This is tacticalgamer, so you don't see snipers running around diffrent areas of the map looking solely for kills. Snipers are set up as spotters and to annoy certian flags and protect from rushes. I myself enjoy sniping in urban areas. Snipers require patience, so if it requires sitting in a tree for ages, then thats what I'll do.

I sit. I wait. I kill.

See them before being seen, you cant do that while moving around.

Re: Snipers take a look..

Do not snipe but i have noticed variations.

Some snipers like to stay in a infantry squad and stay back a little and help out that way. Works well in forested areas. So i guess u can say they run around a little.

It is hard to compare real life snipers with a game were players can not see more than 300 some meters from their gun scope.

Snipers on such games are very active cause they really are not that far from enemy positions at any given time. (i am comparing them to real world sniper behaivor).

pickle comes to mind when it comes to a sniper that is distant and patient. YOur not finding that guy unless he gets bored and comes to u.

Re: Snipers take a look..

The opfor sniper rifles arent true sniper rifles, theyre more of just a rifle with a slight scope. When im using those, i move around about as much as i would if i were an assault player, but i try to keep a distance of 25-30 meters when possible. With the M24 i vary depending on what we are doing. If we're on defense, i generally try to find a nice spot and snipe normally. If we're on offense, i use it like an assault rifle. A sniper moving with a squad can be valuable. Take a shot anywhere on the body, and your teamates will probably be able to clean up the last 2 bars.

Re: Snipers take a look..

Snipers are so undervalued in BF2. They should get points for spotting. Sure sniping someone and letting their medic revive them just so you can snipe them again is fun but a snipers best weapon is spotting. It’s a great feeling when a friendly squad is about to get jumped by a sneaky enemy squad and the tables turn. It is very satisfying to see all those green and blue dots turn and wipe out the red ones just because you spotted the enemy first.

Re: Snipers take a look..

Back in the day i usta lead my squad as the sniper, right up close on the flag. Then i learned to just spot and take down long range targets before my squad could get to the objectives. There are many snipers here, each with his own talents and way of doing things, i would venture to say that none are close to the same in style.

Re: Snipers take a look..

When I played, I was a "stick and move sniper." I would wait forever for a shot, take it, and move out. Played opposite Tempus one too many times to stay put.

Re: Snipers take a look..

Recon and force protection is probably the best role for a BF2 sniper. It's handy to have one watching the flanks of any given defensive position. If there's a lot of fighting to the west, you should be watching east.

On TG the closest thing you should see to a lone sniper is a small recon squad set up as sentries near chokepoints. They can spot for the infantry, pick off stragglers, and prevent an enemy from controlling an area.

pretty much how I play it. Unless I attach myself in an actual squad - in which case I do the same thing for my SL instead of the entire team...

Re: Snipers take a look..

staying put as a sniper is a good way to get a resupply crate dropped on you

Re: Snipers take a look..

M95 owns all (especially when they narrow the crosshairs in 1.4), but on TG the best is naturally the M24.

Best way to snipe is to find a spot that isnt used by fifty other snipers and to move when someone spotted you.

Re: Snipers take a look..

I usually hang tight in specific spots when I'm in a sniper squad. however, when I'm running around w/a full squad, I'm either on pt. or in the rear doing recon or trying to pick opponents off before my squad goes in. I'm not particularly fond of playing sniper in urban maps except for mashtur. Urban maps to me are more fun when I'm in the action, and not trying to pick people off, unless it's a river standoff.
